    Glad to see that you're making progress.
    How about trying my 3.60GHz settings with the F11d modified bios where Trim now works with the raid drivers!!

    note: The almost all AUTO settings still needs to pass Prime95 stress testing.

    I have to get some more alcohol and cotton buds so I can properly apply thermal paste before I start overclocking. Hopefully I'll get some tomorrow and do the Xeon mod and put everything back in the case neatly with tidy cables :) Would the Q6600 be able to make 3.6GHz?!

    Ah ha, I forgot that you're using your Q6600 right now.
    3.60GHz might be doable but you'd need more radical settings.

    Try it with the bios using
    • performance level = Turbo
    • Cpu PLL = 1.59
    • Cpu Termination = 1.34 - 1.38

    Do not leave PLL or VTT = AUTO, the bios will overvolt each one to dangerous levels.

    You might have better luck using 3.20GHz - 3.40GHz.

    Here's another scream-shot that now includes the AnvilPro F11d benchmark using the raid driver on my single ssd.

    Sorry for the confusion, I haven't updated my signature with my EP45-UD3P or P5Q hardware setups.

    My earlier Samsung 840 Pro Rapid benchmarks were with it installed in my P35-DS4 system before I switched all my hardware around.

    I've applied the registry hacks that allow you to boot using IDE, msahci, or raid mode but AHCI is the only mode that causes the 0x7B BSOD.
    Your comment got me thinking and I'm now pretty sure that the Samsung 830 128GB ssd was originally installed in my "backup" N650SLSI-DS4 system which uses Nvidia chipsets. This might also explain why the windows recovery partition is "corrupted" and not usable. For those who aren't familiar with Samsung 830 ssd's, they are not compatible with Samsung's "enhanced" Rapid mode. My current 830 benchmarks have typical ssd performance using the motherboard's native Intel sata2 ports and their performance is similar to other top tier ssd's installed in sata2 systems.

    My next step will be to use SYSPREP on this ssd and see if I can then use the stripped down SYSPREP system image with the EP45-UD3P motherboard and still keep all of my installed programs. Obviously I will first back up the current 830 boot partition that currently works in IDE or Raid mode.

    My 3.60GHz bios settings were not stable; the Prime95 Blend test failed after 1 hour, 45 minutes when the system froze.
    Problems like this often happen after you flash your bios with a different version.

    The most important thing right now is to make sure that your bios settings at stock cpu and memory speeds is rock solid so that you can safely reflash your bios, defrag your hard drives or to change partition sizes safely. This means that your need to run each of the three Prime95 stress tests (Blend, Small FFT, and Large FFT) for at least 4 - 6 hours. OCCT is a similar program that can also be used.

    A warning; be prepared to clear your cmos frequently with some failed overclocks.
    In one case, I lost all of my saved bios profiles, when the bios couldn't find my automatically saved bios on my drive and the "empty" backup bios was automatically copied over to the main bios chip. QFlash will let you save your main bios to any FAT formatted drive, and QFlash can't save or load from any NTFS formatted partitions. Over the years I've copied many copies of my bios profiles from the FAT formatted drive to an NTFS folder on my hard drives for safe keeping.

    Attached is a picture of my special tool used to quickly and easily clear my cmos without having to get down on the floor, remove the side case and finally try to access the motherboard's clear cmos pins which are probably partially hidden by several sata drive cables.

    Obviously the female end of the cable connects to the two clear cmos pins on your motherboard and you must jumper the correct two pins on the male end of the cable, usually for 5 - 10 seconds, after you have first turned off your power supply using the on/off rocker switch on the rear portion of the psu.

    I prefer a cable where the male end pins are fully protected by a plastic cable end and that the fan cable is long enough to exit the rear of the computer case, near the psu on/off switch.

    Your settings look good, not optimized, but good.
    Trying for optimized settings with no overclock is a waste of your time; remember, you want your stock settings to be stable.

    You have a lot of hardware options enabled, which is fine for starting out.
    I have my com, serial and 1394 hardware disabled to "slim down" my system.
    If I need to enable them in the future, it's just a quick bios change.

    Now would be a good time to perform a couple of benchmarks that won't mean much but it provides a baseline.
    You might even want to wait a couple of days before you replace your Q6600 with your Xeon X5460; it's up to you.

    Keep detailed notes that include your settings, temperatures, and a detailed account of all errors.
    I've found that this approach helps uncover good and/or bad patterns that can help you avoid or minimize some common problems.

    profJim, nevermind about SSD speeds. I thought that those bubbles on the right in Anvil's benchmark indicated sequential speeds, but it looks like people are getting those at 1000+ with majority of SSDs. So these are just meaningless "points" as it turnes out.

    lukevega, Your temps are wrong. Q6600 TjMax is 100C, not 85C like on most Harpertowns. So your real temps are 15C higher than currently reported. :P
