    With a 50MHz cpu speed increase, I would set vcore up one click to 1.40000.
    If you are manually setting DRAM Voltage (2.10 volts) and MCH Core (1.24 volts) you might want to try the AUTO setting and see how that works out.
    With Cpu Core voltage = 1.40 you might need to increase VTT from 1.34 to 1.36 volts.

    You might not be able to rotate your cpu cooler.
    Based on my cooler's 100mm width and only 23mm of clearance, your NH-U12P's 126mm length might not fit with your Hyper T1 memory's heat spreader.

    In one of your earlier TIM photos, the "dot" of TIM was off center and this could cause higher cpu core temperatures.

    I'll get on it! Do I want to try auto settings for both DRAM Voltage and MCH core or should I try single changes at a time and see what happens with just vcore/vcore+VTT?

    Your TIM photo looks good, but try the finger in a bag spreading method using a similar amount of TIM.

    I've found that using the AUTO setting for DRAM voltage and MCH Core gives values that appear to be too low but they work OK.
    I would change both of these settings to AUTO and then test.
    It will be best if you note these specific AUTO settings in your detailed posted settings screen-shots.

    As stated earlier, never use the AUTO settings with Cpu PLL or VTT (Cpu Termination) when overclocking.

    It might save you some time if you run three separate preliminary 2 hour Prime95 stress tests assuming that none of the tests generates errors.

    It's either a dot, spread or horizontal line slightly above the center.

    BTW, I'am thinking about delidding one of my X5460's,
    so I might be able to see the die alignment with my own eyes and take some photos.

    Golly gee, now I feel bad that my quad core cpu doesn't look as pretty as the stylized Intel marketing drawing.



    Arctic Silver has recommended TIM application methods for different Intel and AMD processors: Arctic Silver, Inc. - Intel® Application Methods

    If you go with the finger in a bag spread method, you're covered if your TIM spreads easily.

    Years ago I gave up on using a credit card or razor blade to spread TIM evenly with an ultra thin coating.

    Yeah I got an mixed opinions on as to whether it's soldered in or not. Apparently some of these Xeons aren't soldered, but not all. So I sacrificed my extra X5460 (c0) for the sake of science. :D

    Looks like the cores of X5460 are BELOW the caches, not on top like in previous pic from Q9550. Also, there is no caps like in some of C2Qs.





    I've got a feeling that E0s are not soldered, since the temps seem to be volt-for-volt higher on them than on C0s, at least on my particular chips the difference was some 10C, it's just that E0 typically needs less vcore by almost 0.1v, so it still runs cooler clock-for-clock.
    And no, I'am definitely not delidding my main E0 X5460 nor trying to do so. :D

    Interesting to note that tRD Phase0 Adjustment for Channel B when set to auto was 1 as supposed to 0 for Channel A...

    lukevega, how much you paid for GA-EP45-UD3P? That's arguably the best overlocking mobo for LGA775 ever made, I'am surprised you are having such a hard time with it.
    I was today looking for a mobo replacement myself, it was either GA-EP45-UD3P or a good DDR3 board. I just couldn't find this Gigabyte at acceptable price, so I bought MSI x38 Diamond instead. I hope I will at least break that 421FSB which I had with P5QC. That ASUS board wasn't terrible, in fact it could post and somewhat boot at 500FSB, but memory controller was just going bananas with both Kingston HyperX Genesis (2x 2GB DDR3-1333 CL7 1.65v) and Corsair Vengeance (2x 4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 1.5v) kits and anything above 421FSB. I loosened the timings so much that the memory bandwidth dropped from 10 000MBps to 4500MBps but it was still unstable even then (prime95 blend failed after 1 hour) Using only 1 RAM stick didn't help neither.

    I paid just over £60 for it (including delivery) which should be ~ 260 Litas. As you're probably aware I'm quite new to overclocking and so I wouldn't say I was struggling, rather that I was learning and Jim has been an exemplary teacher in that respect.

    If I can't overclock this motherboard any higher I'll still be pleased with what I have but I enjoy overclocking (when it goes well) and I'm trying to get better at it and get the most out of this system. Like I mentioned previously I'm watching out for a good price on an X5470 to maybe take the system further still but my goal after I have finished overclocking will be to make the system as quiet as possible so we'll see how that works out!

    As always I'm happy to take suggestions and advice and if you can help me achieve a better overclock then by all means I'm all ears!

    OK it looks like I made a rookie mistake... X38 is not compatible with X54x0. Damn! I knew that, but totally forgot since it was irrelevant for me at the time... I hope the seller will kindly cancel my order before shipping so that I wouldn't have to wait just to ship back...
