    Hi,

I have the same mainboard and CPU and the CPU won't OC at all. I tried 50MHz OC and after certain time the PC will freeze or reboot. I'm not a noob and I have very rich experience in overclocking, especially with the Core2 family. But it seems something is wrong with my setup.

    The configuration is the following:
    GA-P35-DS3L
    Xeon X5460 + Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO /mod Noctua 140mm fan
    4x2GB DDR2-800 CL6 (2xKingston Value RAM, 1xNanya and 1xElpida)
    Sapphire R9 280X DualX OC
    SSD LiteOn M6 128GB (M.2 to SATA) + HDD WD Green 1TB
    Atrix 600W PSU

When the CPU is at stock the PC is rock stable. I tried different voltages on the CPU, MCH and FSB, but I couldn't make it stable even with a 50MHz OC. I also tried various multipliers and combinations, but still no chance...

Any ideas what could be the problem?

    Welcome to the forum.

Your problem might be caused by using mixed memory modules. See if you have better results by using only the two Kingston modules using memory slots #1 and #3.

When you have a freeze or reboot, check the windows Event Viewer to see if it provides information at the time of the problem. WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView should provide additional information.

I'm not familiar with your power supply and it might be part of the problem if it is a lower end model or if it's more than five years old.

Please post a cropped screen-shot that includes four windows of the Cpu-z SPD panels that include detailed memory information for slot 1, slot 2, slot 3 and slot 4. Which bios version are you using and what is the motherboard version number?

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs portion of your forum profile http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile.php?do=editprofile at the bottom of the profile page.

Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done with your hardware list, save the settings.

hello guys, first of all I apologize for my English, use google tranlsator.
I wanted to know the maximum voltage to keep a X5460 on P5Q Deluxe in daily.
    these voltages:
cpu voltage 1.35v max I read on the site intel is correct?
CPU PLL maximum air is 1.59?
    FSB termination voltage ???
    nb voltage ???
    sb voltage ???
I would not leave the settings to AUTO because I do not trust the motherboard XD

    tnx so much

    Welcome to the forum.

If your cpu and memory are at their stock speeds, you do not want to manually set voltages to the maximum safe values. When a system is not overclocked, your system probably will be safe with all AUTO voltage settings.

If your system has a moderate or extreme overclock, then the goal is to manually set some or all voltage settings to the lowest values where your system is stable and you have run several stress test programs for 8 hours or longer.

As an example, the stock speed of my Q9550 is 2.83GHz and my EP45-UD3P system was stable with an overclock up to 3.20GHz with all of my voltage settings set to AUTO. When I overclocked my system higher, some of my voltage settings needed to be set a little higher so that my system was stable when running several Prime95 stress tests for at least 8 - 12 hours.

With my system overclocked to 3.825GHz or 4.012GHz, a few of my voltage settings needed to be set close to the maximum and a few voltage settings were still using the standard AUTO settings.

With P35 or P45 systems CPU PLL and FSB Termination (aka VTT) can easily be over-volted by the bios when their AUTO settings are used with a moderate and/or extreme overclock.

    I take this sentence.
I have a chipset p45 and I would like to set the voltage for PLL and FSB for better overclocking and above all safe. What's the limit is not exceeded?

CPU PLL less than 1.60 volts is safe.

FSB Termination less than 1.40 volts is safe.

CPU voltage up to about 1.40 volts with Load Line Calibration disabled at about 4.00GHz is OK if the indvidual core temperatures are less than 80O(C).
With LLC enabled CPU voltage about 1.34 volts should be good.

These are guidelines and you need to run stability tests to make sure that your system is stable.

    perfect thank you very much.
tips enable or disable llc? my goal is to reach at least the 3.6GHz then if temperatures will allow me, I will go up even more

    You're welcome.

I don't use LLC because I want my voltage to automatically lower when there are light or moderate cpu loads so that my system temperatures are lower because the cpu generates less heat. Most or all of the overclocked Asus P5Q bios templates that I've seen in other forums have LLC enabled. In this thread Luke and SmOger found that their cpu core voltages were somewhat lower when they disabled LLC. Years ago some forum posters claimed that their systems weren't stable unless they enabled LLC.

NB Voltage depends on how much memory you have installed and the memory speed. If this settings is too high or too low, the Gigabyte motherboards will not boot properly and the bios often resets to default settings.

If you have a halfway decent cpu cooler reaching 3.60GHz shouldn't be too hard.
