yeah lets hope it was the bad seating of the cpu (still cant test it).

i am using this MemTest86 - Offical Site of the x86 Memory Testing Tool (now i use the latest version), isnt it supposed to be better because the other is not updated for years?

i always run only Small FFT, i find the others useless because i use memtest for the rams...

has there ever been an error on one of the 2 other modes that didnt occur on memtest and small fft?

just for the fun of it some pics of the mods i have done (just to understand how i am keeping this pc alive!) and the cpu problem: Dropbox - Public

just tested again (after the re-seating), same old same old...

i need 1.20v+ in the North Bridge to get windows working and after that i get the restart problem (that as i have said strangely starts appearing only after 1.18v).
the only thing i didnt test was if i would get memtest errors with the overclock, probably i will do it while i am sleeping just to cross that last one also.

from my viewpoint it seems like a "bad" or too much used (extreme overclocks temps etc) cpu piece, probably i was unlucky and got a "lemon"...
at least i did request a refund because of the "seating problem".

ok, tested with memtest but used 1.24v at North Bridge and 1.84v at dram and memtest showed 0 errors after 4.5 passes.

i will run it again with 1.20 and 1.80 (and if i get errors, like before re-seat, then at 1.20 and 1.84) so i can find the "minimum" extra volt (because i cant get bellow 1.20v on north bridge as you know) to be able to run memtest without errors.
and then i will start the "hunt" for lower vCore because i did it on auto.

is there any possibility that my north bridge may get damaged at that volt (1.20 and/or 1.24) after a long time?

i got errors again (re-seat didnt help at all it seems) at 1.20v north bridge (voltage on dram doesnt matter), but i found the "sweet spot"! at 1.22v on north bridge is the lowest i can use to NOT get errors on memtest after 5 passes!

the only thing left now is to find the lowest Vcore and save the profile!

do you think 1.22v on the North Bridge will harm it after 2years or something?
ofc i still have the strange restart problem.

North Bridge settings in the lower 1.20 volt range should be fine for long term use. Keep in mind the overall age of the hardware in our "ancient" P45 systems and that pushing the hardware too hard can lead to an early failure. When needed, using NB voltages up to 1.28 volts in Gigabyte P35 and P45 was common when using 4GB memory years ago.

    re: Memtest86
Years ago when the P35 and P45 systems were popular, many people had problems getting Memtest86 to run but were able to run Memtest86+ with no problems. I had a few cases when Memtest86+ ran overnight with no errors, but one of the Prime95 tests would have errors in one or more of the worker threads. All Memtest86+ errors that I got were always due to bios settings that weren't "close enough" to the actual bios settings that were needed to be stable.

I've never seen either version of Memtest used for regular stress testing overclocked systems in this forum or in other highly regarded forums.

At one time I tried running several instances of HCI Memtest but discovered that when I had no errors, follow up testing running Prime95 tests resulted in worker errors.

    the epilogue (or not?):

if you exclude the restart problem, i am perfectly stable (~9 hours prime95 small FFT and ~9hours memtest86 7.2) at 3.6Ghz with 400fsb and ram's at 800mhz and the "slow timings" set in bios. temps dont go higher than 62c.
all voltages are at the "stock-standard" except Vcore that that is at 1.2v (the cpu has a VID of 1.18750) and the north bridge at 1.22v.
there is a possibility that lower voltage is enough (maybe even the VID voltage), but i will test that another time.

do you know how i can get more than 3.6ghz maintaining the 800mhz speed on the rams? or i am limited at that?

    To summarize:
    • FSB X cpu multiplier = cpu speed
    • FSB X memory multiplier = memory speed

Your maximum cpu multiplier is 9x
The minimum memory multiplier is 2.00x

    You are limited to 3.60GHz (400 x 9.0) maximum when your memory speed can't go higher than 800MHz (400 x 2.00).

Both of my systems have EIST and all C-states enabled and I use a Balanced power profile in windows.
With my Q9550 (3.825GHz) and Q9650 (4.050GHz) systems, I have LLC (load line calibration) disabled and the cpu vcore settings are in the 1.38 - 1.39 volt range.

You might find that my energy saving approach is harder to get stable when you have an overclocked system.
SSD speeds might be somewhat faster when EIST and C-states are all disabled, but with P35 and P45 this is probably not an issue.
