Default Gigabyte Z87X-OC 4 out of 6 usb 3.0 from the back panel dont work

    Hello everyone
I am having issues with 4 usb 3.0 from the back panel of the motherboard because when I connect a device (usb 2 flash drive, usb 2 hdd, usb 3 hdd, usb 2 external blu ray burner) to any of them it the device gets power but windows does not recognize the device.

The 2 usb 3.0 ports that work are the ones next to the lan port.

    My system:
    Windows 7 ultimate x64
    Core i7 4470k
    8GB 1600 mhz kingston genesis
120 GB kingston kyperx 3k ssd
    zotact geforce 660ti 2GB

    Any help would be appreciated

Did you do a clean new Windows install? If you posted this I missed it.....
If not start over and install Windows then drivers. Even going from 8 to 9 series chipsets I had to do a clean install to get the inf drivers to install correctly...which can directly relate to how the USB works (or doesn't).

I performed a clean install but the problem persists.

    Hi,
It seems that your 6 USB 3.0 ports on back panel are divided into:
4 Intel (chipset) USB 3.0 controlled Ports
    2 Renesa USB 3.0 Ports

I think you installed the Renesas drivers but you have to install the Intel one too since Win 7 x64 do not support USB 3.0 out of the box .
That would explain why 4 ports don't work.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards

The download page only shows the Intel USB 3.0 driver. The Renesas hubs don't need drivers.

I would contact Gigabyte support on this, sounds like you've done about all you can.

    Right but that is strange:

    Driver:
    Renesas/Nec uPD720201/720202 USB 3.0 Controller Drivers Version 3.0.23.0 WHQL

On Asus ROG forum they have the same problem with their MB equip with Renesas/Nec uPD720201 . One's reporting success after installing the driver and clear CMOS.

    Firmare:
    Renesas/Nec uPD720201/720202 USB 3.0 Controller Firmware Version 2.0.2.4
    This one I don't know

Telling people to install drivers that aren't needed only serves to confuse people. The Renesas drivers exist for boards that need them; his isn't one of them.

    Yes you're right. My bad.
Moreover I suggested the driver for uPD720201 and not the right chip uPD720210

I should have recommend to install the:

    Gigabyte INF Driver *important*
    Gigabyte USB 3.0 Driver

But I think I am not the only one to use the latest drivers from PHY level manufacturers. I think that is what's for:
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html

Since Haswell USB 3.0 bug is a fairly well known bug (not mentioning Renesas own ones) at the PHY level which is handle by Intel (which work closely with Renesas on that bug now for Win8 but still) and it is reported across by all MB manufacturers, I think its fair to suggest for people coming here out of the box thinking and solutions to try to solve their problems (Yes, mentioning the risks involved also). Intel released 2 USB 3.0 drivers for Win 7 (which is a bit uncommon but well explained on Intel site).
Moreover, It is not clear (at least for me) if GB has address the problem in the C2 stepping of the chipset for the board. If you want to know the stepping of one's board... CPU-Z: Lynx Point 04 (or 04h) = C1, Linx Point 05 (or 05h)=C2. Not sure if it matters though. Stasio, Profjim, Acebmxer, Wazza?

That being said, if the above do no resolve the issue, I would suggest (like Stasio did in another threads and forum so I am not taking the credit for but I will take the blame):
    Install the latest:
    - Latest Beta Bios (optional and at your own risk, unless it is clear that the bug has been addressed in a new beta BIOS, See latest beta BIOS threads)
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...beta-bios.html
    - Latest Intel INF Driver (which will cover the handling of the 8 series and the bug) *Important*
    - Latest Intel USB 3.0 Driver (Win7 x64 for Intel 8 series)
    if not
    - Add the latest Renesas Drivers

Stasio, Profjim and Boondocks have good threads also:
    Bios F5P - GA-Z87X-OC - USB3 and
    GA-Z87-UD5H. USB3.0 onboard Header Issues

If not or in parallel with...like Boondocks wisely suggested...GB support ticket...and/or...yeah...RMA
Do not hesitate to come back.
    Cheers
