Probably not the case in this instance as it would chew much more but worth checking if any of the above sounds familiar.
I never did that. I only ever limit cores via the BIOS.

I don't really think this has anything to do with drivers or changes on the software side. I've reformatted several times since it happened again, and it's been doing it every time. Currently it's nothing but a clean install of Win7 SP1 without a single driver or software setting altered, and it's still reserving the same 119MB.

I have 40mb hardware reserved yet in windows it shows 8gb,no usable

have you tested with just 8gb? then 16gb then 32gb?

Yep. I took out one stick at a time when I was making sure it wasn't faulty RAM causing it. And like I said, it has been lower than 119MB with all 32GB installed - I don't know exactly what it was, because I didn't check resmon, but it was low enough not to be visible in the 'System' screen as "(XX GB usable)".

you only usually see "usable" if there's any bent cpu pins or imc/vtt voltage isn't enough

you might see it if there's a faulty ram stick cant remember now,it could also be a trait of the os with 32gb of memory, could be normal

I think it's more likely a trait of some Gigabyte z97 boards, considering that someone else on OCN gets "7.88GB usable" with 8gb on a UD5H. Or rather a bug than a trait, since it changed for me.

it could be a bios bug,ive never seen it on any board other than a few with bent pins

my z77 gigabyte board displays the memory fine, but its still early days for z97 so hopefully future bios's will fix it (if it is a bios bug)

Yeah, that's exactly how mine was the second time I reformatted. It went like this:

    - Flash BIOS to F6
    - Install windows without GPU: "32 GB (31.9 GB usable)"
    - Install GPU, disable IGP: "32 GB (31.9 GB usable)"
    - CMOS clear
    - Install windows (IGP still disabled): "32 GB"
(I think I might have installed windows again here)
    - CMOS clear
    - RTC battery clear
    - Reflash BIOS with F6
    - Install windows (IGP still disabled): "32 GB (31.9 GB usable)"

And now it doesn't seem to matter what I do, it's always "32 GB (31.9 GB usable)"
