    Default PCH/PLX Fan Grinding on Z87 OC-Force

The fan started making horrid grind noises this week. Board is under warranty still but RMAing an entire board because a cheap fan bearing has probably gone out seems overkill. However gigabyte from what I'm told won't RMA just the fan. they'd want the whole board. That seems like overkill.

Board pictured is not mine. just a random OC force board i found online then circled offending fan on.

I was curious if anyone has replaced one of these and knows precise part to order and best means of doing it.I've tried to get used to the grinding but its loud and far too distinctive to get used to. It's louder than even the 3 1500 radiator fans that are on the case outside..

does it grind all the time or just when cold/first few minutes of bootup?

could try removing it and spray it with some wd40? its non conductive or a well aimed spray while its still on the board? wipe off any excess

idk where you would get one from other than gigabyte themselves and they said they wont send you just the fan, you'd need to remove the whole heatpipe/fan/heatsink assembly

On and off actually. It may be quiet a few hours then start up again out of blue.

Probably couldn't aim very well with it on. will definitely take it off if I figure out how. I'm sure I can find instructions online. Just wondering if it's worth trying to mess with it to fix it or replace it outright if it's a cheap fan part.

I would try and use some lubrication,i had a cpu cooler fan that would do the same some wd40 cured it

if the actual fans come out then im sure you could pick one up off ebay, seems silly for gigabyte not being able to send you the whole fan/heatpipe assembly so you can just swap them over, ive never removed one myself but pretty sure its screwed from the back of the board with spring washers inbetween
