You're welcome, glad to help out.
It's good to see that windows 10 is alive and well.

I have found that the results from AS SSD and Anvil Storage Utilities are nearly identical.
I prefer the Anvil results because it provides more information about the system.

    Looking good.

Using AHCI or raid mode with a single drive provides better performance than using pciide mode.

The Marvell 9128 chip supports the GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7 sata3 ports.

The Gigabyte sata2 chip supports the GSATA2_8, GSATA2_9 sata2 ports.

Gigabyte replied to my request about if I should update the Bios when I first had issues, the reply today just said update Bios and see

They did attach a zip file with bios F9D, I believe my bios is F7.

Now I have the SSD working do you think its worth updating the bios, or should I leave as is.

    Thanks.

    Two thoughts:
    1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
    2. The F9d mod bios might offer useful improvements.

A quick web search shows that the F9d bios can be downloaded from several different places. Are all of versions identical? Probably not!!
What specific changes or improvements are in the F9d version that Gigabyte sent you? No one knows for sure.

It's not difficult to determine the option rom (orom) components in the Award bios, but there's no way of knowing what changes Gigabyte made that deal with other features or improvements.

I found a recent x58a-ud7 (rev 1.0) thread at win-raid.com that dealt with quite a few problems when flashing with different F9d bios versions.
The OP in his thread was looking to optimize raid 0 ssd performance.
His thread is x58a-ud7 bios problems with F9d mod bios

The OP had some problems with the Marvell performance while he was trying a few of the modded bioses.
Keep in mind that the win-raid forum is mostly used by people who want to modify their bios for best performance with raid configurations.

I can report the orom versions in your current and new F9d bioses if you post a link to each bios version from a file sharing site such as Dropbox.
You can save a copy of your current bios to a floppy, usb or any partition that has a FAT file format.
The information would include information similar to this:

    GA-X58A-UD7 (rev1) BIOS F9d mod
    Modified with :
    Intel SATA RAID 11.6.0.1702
    Intel SATA AHCI 1.20E
    Realtek LAN 2.45 to 2.58
    JMicron ROM 1.07.28
    Marvell BIOS Version 1.0.0.1033 / Firmware 2.2.0.1125

    Keep in mind:
    1. the Intel Sata AHCI 1.20E version hasn't been updated for quite a while.
    2. flashing the motherboard's bios might brick your motherboard, even if you do everything correctly.

I assume that your ssd, hard drive and optical disk are all connected to the Intel sata2 ports.

    ARRRRRG!!

In post #4 I said to connect your ssd to the Intel sata2_0 port for the best overall performance.

Check out Real C300 SSD not seen when installing Win7 x64 on GB X58A-UD7 where our former forum guru (Lsdmeasap) provided X58A-UD7 ssd performance information several years ago.

With your ssd connected to the Intel sata2_0 port, rerun the Anvil and AS SSD benchmarks again.
You will probably notice an improvement where your system feels faster.

The S6 marvel controller will perform worse than the ich10r.

You may wish to buy an ebay LSI raid card, and flash it to "IT" mode to get proper sata6 speeds.

most "consumer" sata6 cards basically suck and are slower than the ich10r...

edit: IBM ServeRAID M1015 Part 2: Performance of the LSI 9220-8i

edit2: there is a 4 port version on ebay for 55$ versus over 100$ for the 8 port. see if the vendor will cross flash it to IT mode for you.

Profjim and messerchmidt's - Thank you yet again, I'm currently connected to port 7 Sata III, I assume I'm using the Marval driver as it's also in the bottom toolbar on the right.

I did try moving it up into Sata II port 1 but could not get the machine to boot.

    Thanks again.

Thank you for your guidance and help.
I have now plugged into the Sata2_0 port and run AS SSD again, there is an improvement, so thanks for that.

One thing I cannot see to get rid of is under show hidden icons, bottom tool bar on the right side, if I click the USB icon I have Eject Marvell 91xx Config.
I can eject it and nothing happens, next reboot it's back.
Is it required or can I can I remove it, if yes how ? or do I need to download and install the driver or something.

    Thanks.

    ***UPDATE***

Disabled port 6-7 in bios, Marvell error now gone.

I will now look into the suggestion of the LSI Raid card.

Can you explain what the benefit of this card will be, I've not come across them, but will do a bit of research.

    Thanks.
