    Default GA-Z97X Gaming 7 + Samsung SM951 256 gb

The GA-Z97x gaming 7 has a M2 slot on board.

Before spending huge on a a new Samsung M2 SSD card (Samsung SSD SM951 256GB, M.2 (MZHPV256HDGL-00000), i wanted to ask if somebody has this config running?

    Does the SSD boot OS?
Does the SSD runs on full speed as you can't find on the specs of the motherboard.

You absolutely want to choose the SM951 over (most) other M.2 ssds! This is an AMAZING PCIE-based SSD (when you have a board that can support PCIE SSD and not just SATA). With Win10Pro on a client build, using crystal disk to spec I got read times of 1.8 GigaBYTES per second. Truly phenomenal speeds.

So yes, the M.2 SSD should absolutely be your boot drive. The GA-Z97X motherboard DOES support PCIE speeds for your M.2 so you should be able to experience close to the full speeds listed on the SM951 spec sheet.

    Hope that helps!

    I had the Gigabyte Z97X ud5h with the Samsung SM951 achi 256gb.

I ordered the following m.2. card.

    https://www.alternate.nl/DeLOCK/PCI-...roduct/1174651

With this add on card you get 2150 mb/s read and 1250 mb/s write speads.

Using the normal m.2 slot will result in a reduction of the write and read speeds view the two lanes
    which are available.

Windows boots perfectly from this M.2 ssd.
