Default GA-E7AUM-DS2H mobo and Corsair DDR3 RAM

Will my mobo work safely with this Corsair DDR3 RAM: CML8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengence Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz CL9 XMP?
From the spec at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CML...rsair+ddr3+8gb, I see it has:

    9-9-9-24 latency, 240 pin DIMM, 1.5 volts. 1600 MHz

In contrast, the current RAM I use is Corsair DDR2: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-TWI...rsair+ddr2+4gb.
    Its details include:

    5-5-5-18 latency,240 pin DIMM, 1.8 volts, 800 MHz

See that voltage difference? Will my mobo toast the DDR3 RAM, and go bang? THe mobo has a 1333 MHz FSB. Will the DDR3 work down at 1333 MHz?

    Thank-you.

    Welcome to the forum.

Your motherboard does NOT support DDR3 memory.

You can't physically install DDR3 memory into DDR2 memory slots and DDR2 memory can't be installed in DDR3 memory slots.

The specs for your motherboard say:

    1. 4 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory
    2. Dual channel memory architecture
    3. Support for DDR2 800/667 MHz memory modules

If you check the memory Qualified Vendors List (QVL) for your motherboard, it says that memory rated at higher speeds will be downgraded to 800MHz speeds.

    profJim,

Thank-you for the graphic demo of why DDR3 won't slot into my DDR2 mobo.

    You're welcome.

Each new generation of computer memory has a new architecture that is not compatible with older or newer generations. A few LGA775 motherboards included two different sets of memory slots where you could install DDR2 or DDR3 memory kits, but you could not run with both types of memory installed at the same time. To get the best performance from a system you need to overclock the cpu speed and the memory speed.

You can learn a lot by doing web searches that deal with the subjects that you want to learn about.

A web search using: ddr2 ddr3 pin difference will provide links that provide detailed information.
I use google as my primary search engine but any of the other major search engines should provide similar results.
