    Hi,

I have just purchased the following computer:-

    Pentium 4 3.0G
    512Mb Ram
    Epox 4PEA800i
    Eagle GeForce4 mx440 8X 128M DDR
    W XP Home
    etc, etc.

The problem is whenever I try to play a game (and sometimes when I don't) the screen freezes or resets back to Windows.

I have tried updating the intel chipset drivers, the graphics geforce driver and I have tried just about everything in the BIOS and Windows XP setup, but to no avail. The Gforce4 card was sharing an IRQ with USB Universal controler 24c2 so I disabled the USB, but still no good. I put the AGP aperture up to 256 and It worked slightly better, but still crashed eventually.

I am happy with the computer and I would really like to find out why it crashes when I try to play a game?? Is this a common problem? Is there a solution?

Any help or information will be very greatly appreciated. I am really in need of some help here.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ben

How big is your power supply, AND do you have adequate cooling?

    Hi guys,

thanks for the reply. : peace2:

    I have a 300w Auriga power supply.

    I run at 44 - 50 degrees C - CPU temp
    30 - 35 degrees C - system temp

I have a CPU fan and a case fan and also a fan on the Gefoce card.

It doesn't have any problems running 3dmax or photoshop 7.0 (it crashed once i think) but I can't seem to run 3d games.

I have tried my old games like Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, etc. and I tried my friends Vietcong but it eventually crashes.

I really don't know what else to do. Should I blow the thing up? Should I flush it down the toilet?

    Please help.

Have you done all of the XP Home updates? Per Wiggo's inquiry above, how agressive are the mem timings? Have you tried backing off a step?

    Thanks for all your replies.

Turns out I had to re - flash my bios. Maybe a problem when I did it the first time??

Anyway it runs great now and thanks goes out to the epox team they were very helpful.

Thanks again. Happy tweaking. Peace. : peace2: : peace:
