    LEt me start with specs

    P4 -2.53g @ 2.66g on a Shuttle As45gt Mobo
    ATI Radeon 9800 w/ Omega 3.10 Drivers
    512mb of Corsair pc2100 Ram
    512mb of Cheapo pc2100 Ram
    ThernalTake Purepower 420w PSU
    Windows XP - PRO.
Temps get up to 45c when playing games.

OK so my pc basically locks up when playing games and listening to music.
For example in counter-strike, my monitor goes blank. i can still make noise in the game and then the pc locks.
in Call of duty the game just freezes and makes a horrible noise which forces me to hit the restart.
watching videos or music also causes the pc just to freeze.
I try to run norton antivirus 2003 but the monitor goes blank and i cant see anything.

I have no idea what can be wrong and i know it can't be overheating.

right now i am going to take out the crappy brand of RAM and see how it runs. ill also try to move around the ram into different slots.
if that doesnt cut it ill run metest tomorrow.

it might also be that the bios is not up2 date.
i dont really want to flash the bios coz i hear it cna screw ur pc up so can u guys give me a link to the bios ill need?

also when u guys try to help dont go hardcore with your computer talk coz i dont know all to much.

well im just babling now so, post your ideas and thx for your help!!

on closer expection, the other brand of RAM is called "Nanya"

i took it out and when i ran Call of Duty the problems started even quicker.

First the monitor goes blank(light goes orange from green)
i can still here sound and then after a few seconds it turns into an annoying buzz. i try to ctrl alt delte it but it does nothing.

Im going to put the Nanya ram back in and take out the Corsair Value Ram and see what happens then.

    ***EDIT***
took out the corsair and tried the Nanya Ram.... still same problem
i decided i was going to try memtest but when i put in a floppy the computer says there is no floppy in the drive. the floppy is hooked up correctly and the light is on.(i have tried 4 disks already and same effect)

i tried to make an ISO(i dont know if i made it right)
well i set the bios to boot from CD-ROM and all i get is an error that says disk boot failure insert system disk or something along the lines.

    ***EDIT***

I guess that is my only option and i'll probably do that during footbal games tomorrow.

does anyone know if that Nanya brand of Ram is any good in the first place?

Sorry I can't help ya LaxJax. I've never heard of that brand of RAM.

    Good Luck!
If you think you know what I know and think you see what I see, than why are you asking me questions?

Put the stick of Nanya back in, and remove the other. Run MemTest86 on it. Then do the same for the other stick

i have already tested the Nanya alone and tested the corsair alone.

with both my pc still keeps rebooting.

for some reason my floppy isnt reading any disks when i put them in so i cant create the memtest disk(ill try to create it on a different pc later on)

the floppy is hooked up properly so i dont know what can be going on

Thx for your help thus far!

Have ya checked the Event Viewer (Control Panel/Admin Tools) for any red flagged errors under applications and system? If ya do have them then double click on each one to bring the full error report up.
