Default fan issues with 6800 GT

As you may or may not have seen from earlier threads... I took the fan off my gpu for a waterblock and now i cant run games without the fan being plugged into the card. ive triedadapters... ive even tried a northbridge fan. The only fan i can get to work and not have the card freak out and crash is a really loud fan i took out of an old psu. why is that? is there anyway i can modify the bios to fix this? (maybe even download a new bios or something) And what if i plug the noisy fan in and then lodge something in it so that it cant spin? Would that be dangerous? Thanks ahead of time guys, this is really driving me nuts.

Lodging something in the fan is a real bad idea as it will cause the fan motor to burn out and maybe cause a whole new set of problems (melted wires, smoke, etc.). Guess you may be able to remove the actual fan from the motor in order to cut down on the noise and still have the motor functioning but I'm thinking there is prolly a better solution.

    Thanks for the reply,

yeah i figured such might happen but i figured id let the more knowledgeable give me the facts. I hope there is a better solution too. Ive been thinking maybe flashing the bios to a different card might help. Anyone have any thoughts on that option?
