    Default CD-rom Not Recognized in Explorer

    I left my computer on over night and when I put a cd in the next afternoon it didn't auto play. When I tried to open it from My Computer there was no cd-rom listed... I know it's hooked up right because it's in the bios. I tried adding new hardware and it doesn't find anything. There is nothing wrong in device manager (except that Cd-Roms isn't even listed as a category). I can't find drivers for my cd rom, which won't help anyways because it's not listed in device manager. It's an LG GCA 4080. Shipped with my laptop. Any reason Windows is not showing my rom drive? I also tried deleting the upper/lower keys under: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Should I just try and delete all the cd-rom keys and see if it tries to find it again? I would like to get it working without reinstalling. Thanks in advance!

    So, every time I post for a problem the answer seems to be right under my nose :( I had to uninstall the drivers and let Windows put the native drivers back on. I think the latest chipset drivers for my mobo messed it up. Sorry for the post guys. Hope this helps anyone if they have similar problems.

    Hi
    This probably sounds like a really question but you mentioned you deleted the cd rom from your system so that windows reloaded it.

    Won't you talk me through this really sssslllloowwleeeyyyy. All I have at the moment is what I assume is the cd rom etc. showing up in my bios but that is it, cannot see it any where else. No reference to it in my device manager, no reference to it anywhere else that I can see, so not too sure how I am going to delete something that I cannot find in the first place........... help

    Ok, that's what happened to me. Go into system through control panel. Then go to the hardware tab and click on device manager. Open the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list. And this is what I did to make windows recognize the drive: Right click on all the items in that list and uninstall them. When Windows reboots it will force a driver reinstall and pick up the hardware connected to the controllers. If that doesn't work for you let me know. I have some other ways you can try too. That's just the easiest/safest way.
