    Default My troubleshooting thread

    Hey!
I'm having a ****ty time with my new computer.
    Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
    2gig OCZ ram (performance serie)
    MSI geforce 7900gt
(Cool stuff, my objective for now is playing Oblivion...)

2 months ago, I received all my parts and built my rig. After a lot of trouble with stability I run a memtest and KABOUM 200 errors just after the 6th test. So I sent back the RAM to OCZ.

Now (2 months later, it was supposed to take a week but **** happens...), I put the ram in and reinstall windows(XP pro), my chipset drivers(the ones from DFI), I patch windows and keep getting BSOD. Ok wtf... I run a memtest for 8 hours with no errors... mmmkay... I run Prime95 and crash in 3 secs for the 2 tests that use the most RAM.

Could anyone give me ideas? No memory problems with memtest but a stability that sucks so much I can't find words to describe it.

I see no mention of your power supply. Is it up to the task of running your system? Even if the specs are rated good enough it may be worth testing it or trying another one.

That and I almost guarantee that if you are running bios defaults for ram timings then they are too tight. Also, list the exact model of your ram and the bios you are using on the motherboard. DFI boards can be a nightmare to set up and get going, but it is worth the effort.

Can the slot I used to put my RAM on the mobo be the cause of errors?

I tweaked my ram using a guide I found on DFI's forum (I used the most stable setting possible). Gained some stability but I'm far from a rock solid system...

OK, when I asked you for your Bios I meant which revision. It should be something like 7-11 or 6-23. You can find that info when you use CPUZ. It makes a huge difference as to which bios revision you are using.

    6.00 isn't my BIOS version?
