hi, i have a sony rx305 vaio pc. it has a samsung cd-rom drive and a pioneer 104 dvd -rw . i am wondering what is the average life span of these drives, since i am becoming more interested in playing divx movies from a cd-r.

    many thanks...

i heard they have a life span of 100,000. if u do the maths; equates to around 11years. is this a reasonable amount?? :) :) many thanks

A lot depends on the enviroment plus how often it is used plus it's quality. Dusty enviroments will soon kill them as well as excessive case temps. ;)

I can't really give ya any guarrantees sorry as Murphy's Law still has a say in things but if I get 2-3yrs from an optical drive then I'm happy with it. : peace2:
