Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me why my cd re-writer doesn't want to burn anything.

I bought a samsung 32X12x40 combi drive and installed it fine. It reads DVDs and CDs fine even copied CDs of all formats. But using the easycdcreator program and directCD I cannot for the life of me get it to burn anything.

I have tried different brands of CDs, lowering the write speed and installing a different IDE cable but the same thing happens evey time. If i run a test the test doesnt find anything wrong but if i try and burn after about 5 seconds the cd ejects and it says there was an ASCPI error (thats as specific as it gets)

    WIN2K
    Asus A7A266-E (latest BIOS)
    Asus Geforce 3 v8200 pure
    256 pc-133 ram
    WD 40GB 7200rpm

any help given will be appreciated
    thanks.

Yeah its the master and there are no other things sharing the ide channel.

Someone suggested that win2k doesn't have its own ASPI installed and that i should install a generic one like adaptecs, is this worth a try?

Should I take it back to the shop?
