I just ran memstat-86 v3.0 (as I had a feeling that my ram, which is one stick of DDR PC2100 512MB ram) today and I got 7 errors from the test, all during the 32-bit test phase, and 6/7 around the 240.8MB mark. I ran the test because I have been getting weird flickings on my LCD monitor (17") in winXP since I got this new ram stick, and in Win98 (I have a dual-boot machine btw), after awhile the scfreen will just freeze. I never had this problem back when I had only one stick of DDR PC2100 256MB ram.

I'm amusing this means this ram stick is garbage and I should return it (and yes, I just got it so I have the receipt). I had a stick of DDR PC2100 256MB before, which was fine, then I went to upgrade to 512MB< but I couldn't just add another stick of 256MB because the mobo didn't like that setup (it's an ECS K7S5A board), so I switched to just one stick of 512MB.

If somebody here could help me out with this problem, that would be great. I also switched the stick into the other DDR DIMM slot on my mobo before running the test, and it still did the same weird thing with the screen. I know it's not my LCD panel, video drivers, or the AGP card (GF4 MX440 SE), because I didn't change anything other than the ram in the last 3 months or so, and I just got my LCD for Christmas.

Anyway, if somebody could give me some feedback that would be great.

    Cheers,

    -Andrew "Xizor" Green

Yes that mobo is one POS (I'm glad that I got rid of mine) and maybe the root cause of ya prob but if ya want to persist with it then this forum maybe ya best bet.

that mobo has problems with some ram but otherwise i think it works ok. it is not a screamer tho. try new a new bios flash first. then slower the mem timings.
