Default Internet stability - drop outs (not isp)

Hey guys - was hoping some people here could shed some light on my problem.

I have recently put together a new comp for myself but i am having problems with my internet stability on it. Generally browsing the web never seems to have any problems but when i run programs such as Ventrillo or multiplayer games i find myself dropping out frequently. The interesting thing with these dropouts, however, is that they do not always disconnect me from all programs at the same time. For example i may drop out of my multiplayer game - but still be in ventrillo, and able to talk/recieve VOIP, or vice versa.

I did a test with my laptop by sitting in ventrillo on the same internet connection and when this PC dropped out the laptop stayed connected so i have ruled out it being an ISP based problem.

Looking at drivers my current driver is the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller #2 - version 6.222.504.2009, which is the newest one. I also experieced the same problems with the version that came with my motherboard.

I am running windows vista 64bit, i7 920 CPU on a EX58-UD4P motherboard - i also run Kaspersky Internet Security (I have tried disabling this - didn't work)

really any ideas would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance,

Since it appears you are using a switch of some sort, try using a different port on that. I have had a few instances where one of the ports on my router/switch played out and did not work, or did not work properly. If your problem magically goes away, it will be a switch issue.

    GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-EX58-UD4P (rev. 1.0)
You could have the wrong driver. I believe you should have the Realtek 8111D

You can try this and see if it helps
do the windows update and let it update the driver
once your done updating go into device manager and delete the NIC card.
Once you have removed the NIC reboot the machine it maybe confused on what driver to use on reboot it should load the newest driver and work.

Thanks for the responses - but unfortunately none have worked :(

Just did all the stuff mentioned - the "windows update" driver that is recommended installs

'Realtek RTL8168B/8111B family PCI-E Gigabyte Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)#2
this one made the internet not work at all
    - version was shown for this as "6.195.625.2007" - which seems to be older than my other one

after this i deleted every trace of the driver from device manager etc - restarted and the pc tried to install the above drive again.

Im now back to running the newest driver as per the gigabyte website which is '6.222.504.2009' - internet runs but im still having the drop outs :(

    any more ideas guys?

    Hey guys - me again
Problem is still not solved - i have literally done everything i know of - please can some1 shed some light on this.

I have installed and removed numerous drivers - reformatted the computer a few times and even returned my motherboard (it had other problems as well).
I made sure all updates were in place and i have also flashed my bios.
I have tried different ports on my router - reset the router and changed the cables.
I have also tried a PCI network card
Running a bandwidth monitor shows no drop outs at all even when they occur.

As i said before, windows offers an update to my driver but it makes the internet stop working and i have to roll it back - 'Realtek RTL8168B/8111B family PCI-E Gigabyte Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)#2 -

It just seems to me that it must be software based - i thought today that vista/a prog may be allocating my bandwidth to certain programs and prioritizing them therefore cutting the others out when a spike occurs - is this possible? is this something i can check?
