I had home networking set up for 2 computers didn't work well with 1 IP address is there a different whey of doing this, This is the way i have it hooked up , from the cable to my modem then to my hub then one cable going to 1 comp and then the other to comp 2.
Both computers have there own network card, I can share my printer and files but when i have the same programs like mAcfee or p2p programs there seems to be a conflict between the 2 computers and with internet explorer and outlook express also,
When i connect just 1 computer to the internet it works fine. is there away around this with 1 IP address.
    Thanks for any replies.

you need to replace the hub with a router for it to work

or set up internet sharing on one of the comps and have the cable/dsl modem plugged into that computer

edit: ya, just read the thread, that about covers it =)

: omg: look at the pic again, do you see the big red cirlce with a line? that means NO

a switch is just a 'smart' hub

follow the link he posted, read ALL of it

    you need something like this:

    or

do you know anything about networking, or did you just throw some stuff together and see what would happen?

If ya follow that last pic and ya only usin' 2 PC's then ya really don't need the hub/switch as just a crossover cable will do but it's always nice to have room to expand.

the router would be better in the long run, but more expensive option, internet connection sharing is free and works well :)
