    Default Noob Needs Help!

I am a noob at linux and need somthing simple, but I can pick up quick. I need a distrubition where I can run games like Unreal Tournement GOTY and Quake 3 Stable. I am also interested in a little video editing or having a media server.

    Any suggestions

Just how simple are we talking about here?

I like to suggest Mandrake 10.0 for people that are serious about getting started in Linux. It's a solid disto and quite user friendly, suitable for newbies and experts alike.

10.1 is due out soon, but it's probably still a few weeks away (at least)

Thumbs up Re: Noob Needs Help!

I agree with tuxfreak, go with Mandrake 10, i've been using Linux a while, i've tried a whack of 'em and Mandrake is my hero. The rest will send you down rabbit hole after rabbit hole trying to solve this error and that one, and you'll wind up swamped. So just get mandrake from here: http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=29, burn the cd's and install. Not sure if you'll need any special driver's and such for the games, i use it for software development.... mostly.

HI umm i agree with tuxfreak and gwarden, havent tried Mandrake though but its ok if ur a newbie u could use the ever popular Ubuntu its makes things very simple but if ur really wanna get deep into linux i suggest Gentoo but go first with Ubuntu and about the games it doesnt matter which distro u choose and regarding about the video editing im sure there are some linux alternatives for it just try searching for it in Google well gud luck!Have fun!God bless!

I use Ubuntu and Mint 7. They're both pretty noob friendly (I'm a noob to Linux too :P)...
    Current system:
    - Intel Q8200 Processor (2.33GHz) (7x multi, roughly 340MHz FSB)
    - Intel DG45ID Motherboard (stupid locked BIOS >:( )
    - 6 GB DDR2 RAM (667MHz)
    - PNY GeForce 9500GT (750MHz Core clock, 1900MHz Shader clock, 500MHz Memory clock)
    -585GB SATA HDD (7200RPM)

Well if you want to install a windows game on Linux I suggest you to download wine(link). Click the appDB link in the top right on the webpage to check how well the programs work.

For a distribution I would suggest Ubuntu. Ubuntu is my favorite; though I haven't tried the other Linux OS's.

I find Linux Mint newbie-friendly. Haven't tried Mandrake.
