Try increasing your PCI latency from 32 to 48 (in bios somewhere)

Had the same prob with my value in windows. Flashpoint would crackle like hell. read somewhere that helps, but other pci devices might suffer. network card took the extra latency fine, upgraded to the live de 5.1 card and now runs fine at 'normal' pci latency.

I think im ready. My last reason not to move would be Photoshop. I need a graphics program that is EXACTLY like photoshop (ive grown accustoimed, sorry) or a Photoshop itself, is Photoshop available there? If not i still think i might try and learn a new one...

The Gimp is the alternative to Photoshop. It is included with any distro that includes Gnome. (which is any current distro) Or available seperatly.

There are about 4 - 5 FTP Clients and 1 - 2 FTP Servers in Mandrake 9.0. The GIMP is an OK image editor, but it doesn't have the user-friendliness that Photoshop has. I'm going to try and emulate Photoshop 6.0 in Linux / WineX to see what happens. If I can run it no problem, the I'm satisfied! :) I know Paint can be emulated no problem. The SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 worked fine for me in Mandrake 9.0 and the NVidia in Linux is way better than the NVidia in Windows, I find! Everybuddy could be a good alternative to Trillian, but I rather use GAIM and GnomeICU instead! :) For the scanners, what one do ya have, JediAgent?

Here's the one gripe I have in Linux: The P2P client. LimeWire doesn't work even with Java 1.4.1 installed! EDonkey2000 won't load up a random server IP automatically and the interface is bad! If some developer can create a recent WinMX-Like, OpenNap, or KaZaA-Like P2P client, that would be sufficient to knock out Windows! :D

Thanks for all the info guys. :thumb:

I head off and read all this up while I look for a few parts to complete another PC. I'll see how far I get with Lycoris before I have to come back and bother ya's again. Oh and in case ya wonderin' my choice of distro it's because I think very shortly ppl are goin' to start askin' me for Linux oses with their PC's very shortly and these ppl will be begginers as well.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at just how smooth it is.....needs a bit of font tweaking but you'll find that in the community arena there...its really active....the new version coming soon will have all the eye candy that the larger distro's have......just that bit easier to install and work though....I'm currently using MDK9 but will probably change over on release of the new upgrade....lotsaluck and enjoy...just think outside that M$ square we have all been painted into.....little old me built my own firewall (a lot being plageurised though but with personal mods).....try doing that with limited experience in Windows.....you'll luv it..just give it a try and think a bit differently
    The older I get...the better I was

Qtella? I'll have to try that! Thanks. BTW, I tried NapShare and it might work, but there's the usual Gnutella problem of server loading!

Whew! I got LimeWire to work a month or so ago thanks to some folks on Neowin! My HP Scanjet 2200c is a full go and sonce 2002/12/20, my system is 100% anti-Microsoft! :D Might want to try Red Hat 8.1 once it gets released, though! That way, I'll know some more alternatives to Mandrake.
