    Default Ram speed question

I have dual channel XMS 3200 2x 1gb ram. And my question is if I use Value ram (cheap ram) same speed 3200 (I know that if you use somethign slower all ram acts the same speed) but nothing special like dual channel, will it slow down the good ram I have? Like the timings and such?

    Thanks in advance

Using mismatched ram is never suggested as you can have major instabilities. Besides, anything over 2GB is a waste unless you do CAD or other extreme high end 3D graphical work.

everything works fine with 2 gigs minus EQ2, which is a huge ram hog. So if I want more ram I should go buy some good ram?

a waste?lol im running at 1800x1440 settings maxed on my 7900gtx512 and my pc uses 2.26gigs+ of ram.plz dont post replys unless u really know whats a waste and not.im sure u run at 800x600 or 1024x768 etc but i run monster res and need lots of physical ram. this guy here shows u first hand and hes only running at 1280x960 using 1.2gig with most settings off\some hi\med .read his page and do some real math before u say whats a waste just because u dont have 4 gigs of ram. .http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:...ct=clnk&cd=1me

and btw do u own autocad 2006?i do it uses less then a gig of ram.bf2\eq2\oblivian\fear\flight sim etc and hi end games are some of thee most if not the most ram demanding applications(depending on res, eyecandy)

and paleghost,if u can swing 4 matching gigs,eq2 would blow your mind how smooth it got and u could max your settings out being nice card,hd,s,cpu etc..NEVER MISMATCH RAM OR EVEN REVESION NUMBERS EVER

can u imagine 2 x 7950x2 = 4 7900gts what the ram needs are in that case for my resolution or higher..wow?lol like 8 gigs 4x2gig sticks(thats what im saying)

Actually, I run 1600X1200 or higher depending on the game and I have yet to run out of memory. I also max out every single setting possible. I don't play bf2 , but I play plenty of DX9c games and I still say anything over 2GB is a waste. Windows XP will only properly handle about 3GB and anything over that never gets used. As for 2 7950's, you could never overcome the CPU bottleneck to get them to run right. Plus, the driver support is horrible. Those cards are good for a system with one PCI-E slot only.

And for the record, my 3D Mark 05 score using my 24/7 settings is 15K

And my 3D Mark 06 score is 8966

And back on topic, yes always buy good ram and always buy matching ram. If you are running out then you will see benefits of more. If you run an AMD system you will need to run them at 2T command rate, but the performance loss will be almost unnoticeable. Windows might only see 3.5GB of it or so, but as I say, if you are running out it is a good idea.

some people need 4 gigs, like bill gates. You should stick with high end RAM, only as much as you need (1 gig is the minimum).

well if you have lots of money and slightly less sense, then 4gb would be cool. then again, to run all that ram at low timings and high speeds....
the best bet for anyone is a matched 2gb kit.
    System Specs:
    AMD athlon 64 3200 venice @ 2.4ghz
    Asrock Dual-939SATA2
    Sapphire Radeon X800GTO2 chip r430 @ 480mhz core/540mhz mem with 1.6v vcore
    1gb Corsair XMS TwinX PC3200 timings 2-3-3-6 at 400mhz
250gb Hitatchi deskstar T7K500 SATAII disk
    160gb samsung spinpoint PATA disk
    Asus 1608P2 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer
Unbranded 500W PSU single 17A rail
Innovatek and Asetek Watercooling (triple fan radiator)
