Need Help, My g/f has a G4 mx440 card and the other night the heat sink and fan fell off the side of it, for the life of me I dont understand why, so after the figured out why we had a shut down, I cleared the cmos and got it back running but I did see where where was the white grease from the factory on the chip, I didnt have any of that, so i put Artic Silver on it, ok question, is Artic Silver ok for the chip, I have never removed a sink from card before, so I wasnt sure, I thought what the hell, its a cheap card, going to give it a shot anyway

Yep, Arctic Silver will work fine on video boards, but be prepared to use more than you would on a processor. There is generally a small indentation towards the center of the GPU and you need to fill it in and get a good level surface to mount the fan on. I use an old gas card that serves no purpose anymore and it works fine.
This is, of course, assuming that you still have the push pins that keep the HSF mounted to the video board. If not, then you would be better off either getting a new HSF for the video board or finding some Arctic Silver Thermal Epoxy.Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill
