Intel pins

ok my brother comp needs a upgrade bad!!
and i dont want to buy a new cpu for it.
his cpu right now is 1.7 ghz but i was lookign for how many pins it is so i run SiSoftware Sandra Standard and it says mirco prosseser ??? now his comp rigth now is a dell =8( runign rd ram so its slow.

now my question is if i buy a mbord with the 478 socket can i use his cpu??

If it's a P4 then it'll likely be an old socket 423 but if it's a Celeron then it'll likely be a socket 478 (CPU's can't be swapped between these two sockets).

I think that ya gettin' confused with the older PIII based Celerons (Coppermine vs. Tualatin) and not the current P4 based ones.
