  • how to turn a 9500 into a 9700

This patch basically activates in the 3d chip all the 8 pipelines per pixel.

Ok, now this is what you must do:
    1. check if your 9500 is a "Pro" model, with a memory interface of 256bit and 128Mb of total ram.
    2. download riva tuner from www.guru3d.com/rivatuner
    3. install riva tuner
    4. click on Power User and then click on Open Patch Script
    5. Go to ...\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftR90x00\SoftR9x00.w2k and double click the file
    6. Click on Continue
    7. Now you must copy the file Ati2mtag.Sys into the windows\System32\drivers directory
    8. Confirm with double click and close riva tuner
    9. Now your system will have an ati 9700pro instead!!!!

Your Gameplay will be totally improved :D

I buy a 9500 with 128M VGA memory. But it can't be changed to 9700!Maybe ATI do something with the chip or the drivers when it knew the change way.

It could be possible that ati has changed some settings in the chip, but I don't think so. You can try to see if the board of your card is red coloured, then it must turn into a 9700. if it doesn't it will probably turn into a 9500pro.:)

personally I would get a 9600 and overclock it. You can try the model already "prepared" by Hercules ( it's a quite good made or otherwise shappire ).:thumb:

i heard that only the 128mb non-pro 9500s can be turned into 9700s cause the pros already have 8 pipelines. hercules 9600's are "prepared"? how so?

AND, only the chips with the L shaped memory sticks can be modded. basically only the 9500 NON PRO 128 MB, w/ L shaped memory modules can be modded. you can buy already modded 9500's on ebay.

Just the other day I flashed the bios on my 9500 pro so I can overclock it. Its recognised as a 9700 now. - You could always do that.

The 9500 are fine as far as I'm aware. I also think you can do anything without having to actually flash the bios. Its the 9500 pros that you have to flash the bios to change anything

By "prepared" I mean prepared for overclocking.

In fact it disposes of an advanced cooling system for better performance and increased stability.

I don't mean to mod the grahic card... what I'm doing is just changing the drivers

Your chance of finding a 9500 NON PRO 128MB RED PCB with L shaped memory chips is next to nothing. Settle for the Pro.

There are chips above the GPU, and down the side, in the shape of an L around it.

The newer revision has them all in a line.

so youre saying i can just go out and buy a 9500 pro from anywhere and theres pretty close to a 100% chance i can turn it into a 9700 PRO?
