  • 50mm fans for Slot-A cooler

My Mum has my old CPU (& mobo) which is a slot-A Athlon 700. The problem is that the fans are almost dead and need replacing.

After looking around on the 'net I found that Below-0 guys have 50mm fans (many other stores didn't). They got 2 (both Sunon brand).

    1st one is: 50x10mm, ball, 4500rpm, 9.2cfm, 30dba and the 2nd:
    50x15mm, ball, 5800rpm, 17cfm, 34dba

Which ones should I choose? I don't know the specs of the original fans, except that they are 50x10mm.

I'd prefer the 1st ones since they are quiter but will the provide enough cooling?

34db wont be too much louder than 30db. The extra cfm is definitely worth it IMO though.

Agreed, the 50x15 is the better one, though u will most likely need longer screws to mount to fan to your heatsink as the original is not as tall as you know.

Are the fans Sleeve bearing or ball bearing? Sleeve bearing fans are quieter but die off quicker.

Yep if ya have the room (which ya should) then get the 50mm x 15mm ones.

He said they're both ball bearing so they're fine.

Thanks for that. I now will get the faster ones.

BTW, is there any benefit of putting thermal goo between the heatsink and the Slot-A CPU cartridge?
