  • radeon 9800 pro infineon ram rip off?

i bought a 9800 pro from an online store for 300.00 when i took it out of the box i saw that it had infineon ram 3.0ns is this possible. when i checked the ram it was 331/378 . i thought that all of the pro cards had 2.8 samsung ram what i am worried about that i paid for a pro and got a non pro the bios say samsung 350 . do they use samsung bios for infineon ram. i also thought that pro clock speed for ram was 338? has this card been overclocked to a pro and sold as a pro . i talked to ati and they said that the serial number is pro and that the numbers printed on the bord could either be for non or pro. they also could not tell me what ram comes on the pro. the place charges 20% restocking fee so i will probably going to keep it. i would just like to find out if i just got ripped off. i also thought about sending it to ati for replacement any options it will be covered by ati so they said.

    windows xp pro
    256 ddr 400 ram two 128
    bba radeon 9800 pro?
    480 watt power
    1700 amd xp
    nforce board
    3d mark 2001 = 12466

dose any body know what the numbering would be on the samsung chips if 2.86 will that number be on there or will there be a type of modle number and thank you (soulburner) for all of your help.

Did you buy it using a good credit card, like a VISA? If you did, you can just return it saying they didn't provide the specified product or that it wasn't what you expected and you don't have to pay a dime; the credit card company will fight it for you. Xoxide.com did the same thing, but the fans they gave me were way above "quiet" so I sent them back and got a FULL refund, no 15% restocking fee, nada, zilch. Try it :thumb: . : peace2: Mista K6

Be sure to post back about the mastercard return thing. I work at a pizza joint sometimes, and we had to stop taking credit cards for the very same reason. I know how you feel about this ripoff. I got ripped off for almost every component in a built machine years ago.(never again). The cpu was suposed to be a pIII 700, the gfx r8500, hd western digital 40gig 7200rpm, and sb live. What I got was celeron 700, r7000, used maxtor 40gig 5200rpm that started makin loud knocking noises, and onboard sound. The only component he replaced was the maxtor, with a new sealed one. I wished I used visa to pay for it.:tears:

: peace2: ok talked the place that i bought it . i was calling to talk to a super but this very sexy voiced girl told me that she would take care of evry thing and she knew all about the video card were do these kind of girls come from? she knew a hell of alot about the video card ram and every thing i think she might have been a tech ,but any way she talk me in to sinding it back in and to put att. to her on the box so she could see it for her self. maybe they will get it right this time and i will have the card i want . not a crappy pumped up non pro , she even thought that it might have got over clocked too .

The clock speed will vary depending on which ram it has. If it is a pro it should have Samsung 2.86ns chips at 350mhz.

                            1000/2.86=350

were do these kind of girls come from?
Well good for her, it's about time. Usually computer stores have a bunch of dumb airhead guys. The ones at the local stores remind me of Michael from the 70's show.
                              I hope it goes well.
