  • Video card choices

    Hi folks,

I've got about $500.00 to spend on a new video card. I'm looking at these 3:

Verto FX 5950 Ultra 256 agp
    MSI FX5950 Ultra 256 agp
    ATI 9800xt 256 agp

I'm not looking at the Verto as hard as I am the other 2.
Please you suggestions and or comments, and warnings regarding these 3 cards, or if you have a better one.
    Thanks,
    Al

It depends. ATi offers better stock performance amd AA/AF, but nVidia has better Overclocking. nVidia also can maintain a better FPS at higher resolutions. The next drivers for nVidia also will support application specific AA/AF options too.

          ATI

ATI has a better implementation of AA and AF. Which results in higher overall image quality. Anything past ~60 FPS is just bragging rights besides you always want vsinc on(synchronizes the card with your monitor) and monitors generally max at the 60 to 80 range.

Also, if I recall correctly ATI suffers less FPS loss when you turn up the AA/AF.

This is all correct except for the mention of AF. Both cards perform AF differently, however it looks the same in practice, in actual games.
