OMG I have no idea what to do with retarded DELL

OK here is what I did when I went over to my friend's place and c if I could upgrade her RAMs and processor and let her borrow my DVD burner. OK... I open the case up after removing all plugs. Looked at the RAMs, and took one out. It was SD-RAM and I had DDR so that idea went kaput. I put her RAMs back in. Then, I had a P4 2.4 ghz spare. She didn't have a manual so I have no idea what size her proc is os I opened it up to see. That was a pain in the ass cuz of that green thing so the fan will blow the heat out or in into the proc from the outside, not the case. Anyways, I removed that and the heatsink. Took me 5 mins cuz of the weird design. looked at it, too small. The proc was too small. W/o touching the proc, I put everything back in. Then I just swapped her CD with mine and then I put everything back together. I press the power button nad this is wat happens. everything turns on. The only thing is that the monitor seems to be waiting for a signal. Like it has a signal, but nothing turns on. Like for example. Turn your monitor on w/o turning ur computer on. Oh I know, it's like it goes into hibernaion mode. The lights turn green and orange. I cant check the mobo cuz my PSU and the DEll's is different. The HDD works cuz I stuck that into my computer and it was fine. I figured it wasn;t the rams cuz it would tell me that something is wrong. Like if you turn your computer on w/o rams, wont it still say something instead of a blank screen? Any other ideas?

For starters did you check the Dell site out first to check with the spec's of that model and what the CPU support for it is as well as certain other hardware parts? Or even download the user manual for it?

Sounds like you took it apart without knowing what the heck you were doing. And by going to Dell.com you can find out everything you want to know without opening the case. Also, every Dell computer has 4 lights on the back of the case to tell you what is going wrong. Read the manual and analyze the lights. Poof! You know the answer.

EDIT: You said she has no manual? She would have had to throw it away, cuz every Dell comes with like 5 of them. Bright move that.......

EDIT: The problem you have sounds like a graphics card problem, maybe you shorted out the AGP while you were messing around? Or bumped it loose?

But, did you clean the top of the processor and bottom of the heat sink, then apply fresh compound?
If not, the thing may be shutting down instantly to prevent the processor frying itself.

That sounds like a good idea. I'll try that. BTW, it was an old DELL so like ppl dont keep stuff. It's not that old though. Ima try Old's idea and then if not, I'll try to use a PCI graphic card. If not that, I'll go look for a manual. Hope she didn't throw it out.
