  • xms corsair 3500 does not like barton 3200 on a7n8x

i bought before i thought. Im absolutely sure this mem is incompatible with my a7n8x. the timings are preset. and if i change bios to user defined or up the voltage for the memory or cpu. my board gives me a blue screen. the multiplier is set correct aswell. it just won't run at 200mhz to give me 2.2ghz. im running a barton 3200. it likes to run at 166mhz, but then my board thinks the cpu is a 2800. do you think 3200 mem will sort this out then, asi heard that 3500 is supposedly not supported by this asus board

Are you sure you didn't get ECC registered RAM or something? That wouldn't be compatible...

Otherwise, you may just have to RMA the RAM (I find that statement funny for some reason). There might be something else wrong (no idea), but sounds to me like it's either some sort of ECC RAM or it's just plain bad.

sorry thers a problem i think. its not 3500 its 3700PT. the only problem is i've had this mem for quite a while now, and i don't think http://www.overclockers.co.uk are gonna want it back after all this time. they have this scheme i think where you can only return within 28 days or something. i'll find out my order and see what they say for monday. doesn't look like they supply 3500 xms anymore. This is the label on my mem box - TWINX1024-3700PT. dunno this mem cost a bomb to buy. an i aint got money for what i now no i need to buy - the 3200 for this board. im pissed as hell

        I found it at Corsair:

It claims timings of 3-4-4-8 (or 8-4-4-3 if you will), but it's possible that it runs even worse on AMD systems. Even Corsair and other good brands can occasionally run worse than stock timings on AMD systems. I guess it's possible if you relaxed the timings even more (at the least change tRAS to 9 or higher) it could fix your problems. Even if that does fix your problems, though, get new RAM ASAP. Those timings are so bad that PC2700 with good timings might give better performance. PC3200 with decent timings would, no question.

I had no luck setting the memory voltage up to 2.7v..I get blue screens when i do this. comp restarts in loops. the memory will only run at 166mhz x 11.0 on the multiplier and register the cpu as a 2500+ running at 1837.497ghz. the bus is running at 334mhz. i think the mem is set to auto timings and so is the cpu at the moment. at auto the mem runs at 6 3 3 3T timings i think but i'll see what the timings change to on user defined and optimal
ps. i just pm this to amd_man
