  • HELP - Build me a gaming rig

If there are already threads that are up to date on this topic, please direct me to them. Otherwise...

I'm looking to build a new system that is used almost entirely for gaming. I'm sick of paying Dell and the like too much money for too little of a PC. Sure their specs look nice, but i've been told they use low grade hardware and simply charge way too much for what you're getting., which results in a sub-par PC for the hard earned cash I dump into them. I'm am very 'computer-literate' you might say, but not when it comes to building a system. From what I gather there are some advances that have come or or on the horizon. Such as PCI-E, SATA, socket 939 cpu's. Realize I don't know much about this stuff, so I'm looking for some good advice.

I simply want a system that I don't even have to question if I can crank all settings to max and experience NONE to VERY LITTLE loss in performance in the latest and upcoming games. One that delivers no loss in FPS, tearing, blurring, etc... I've been an avid PC gamer for just over the past 10 years, and I've never been able to treat myself to such a system.

Is PCI-E all that it's cracked up to be? What about SATA devices? I know you all know MUCH more than I do and so I come to you with my plea. Is hardware that's available now going to give me what I want? Or should I wait until these new technologies become more common within the industry to start building. PLEASE HELP!!

So, as the title to this thread suggests, please build me a system. One that EXCLUDES monitor, speakers, keyboard/mouse, and video card. I hope it is not to unrealistic to acheive this for in the area of $700 USD, but regardless I value your opinions. Also, I understand TweakTown is based in Australia? I'm in the US, so I would like prices to reflect this if it is relevant. I come to you based on what I've seen here and this seems to be the best place for this. THANK YOU ALL!

That's going to be next to impossible on a $700 budget. You can get a system that will let you bring a lot of the visual settings in games up to max, but not resolution, one of the most important. I could easily throw together ~$700 worth of parts that would run any game smoothly at 1024x768 with most of the high quality settings on, but is that what you want?

      He said....

I don't know why he wanted us to exclude the video card. What do you currently have? But without a video card and a monitor for like $200 it is very possible to build a pretty nice system for $700
