  • AMD athlon 64 overclock equivalent speed?

Hi. First time post. I have an AMD athlon 64 3000+ and am overclocking it and was wondering if anyone knew if there is a correlation between the processor clock speed and the "Pentium equivalent" speed? It's stable at just around 2.2 GHz. Is there a table for a specific processor showing clock speed and pentium equivalent speed? Or is there a rule of thumb? If I overclock it does 200 MHz jump correlate to a 3200+ speed or is is something non-linear? Let me know. Thanks.

    That's not how it works...

Quite simply, the model numbers do nothing except compare to other processors of the same core and socket type.

    For stock performance:
    An Athlon XP3000 Barton < Pentium 4 (any 800MHz FSB) 3.0GHz Athlon 64 3000 Winchester < Athlon 64 3000 Clawhammer < Athlon 64 3000 Newcastle

The model number don't mean much in the end.

It's not linear. A Barton 2400 runs at 1.8Ghz, while a Barton 3200 runs at 2.2Ghz. There are different types (cores and even socket types) of CPUs with the same PR rating. A MHz increase will not increase the model number by the same amount.

Well said yaw, it really matters on the core clock speed as he stated and the chip they use, i use a amd 64 3400+ newcastle, and my friend has a amd 64 3500+ clawhammer and i think mine runs a little better. We should compare benchmarks and i should post them for you to see. A little advice tho, dont get a 754 over a 939 or 940 socket board/chip, i made that mistake for the little cheaper price, not worth the 30$ loss :(
