plz help me network my two computer

Hi all:

I have two computer that are connected to each other by network card and cat 5e cable. The host computer has the internet connection and I am tring to share internet connecttion with client computer. I have win xp professional on both computer and ran home network wizard on both computer. The client computer can't access the internet. Thanks for all the help.

You have to get a different type of cable if you are connecting them without a router. I believe it is called a crossover cable. A regular CAT5 cable will not allow you to connect one PC's LAN port to another PC's LAN port.

The cable is fine; it is the manner that you wire up the RJ45 jacks that makes the crossover cable, but the concept is sound. A crossover cable is needed for a connection between a client PC and a host PC that has an extra ethernet adapter.

Hi all:

I have 2 x Lan (RJ-45) Ports on my motherboard which is A8N-sli deluxe and do I need switch, hub, router to nework my two computers to the internet?
Is possibe it possible to network by straight calbe?

If you have two RJ45 plugs then you should be able to hook one to the net with a regular cat5 cable and the other to second computer with a crossover cable (same cable type but has crossed connections .... just buy a "crossover cable").

That is what we were talking about... you need a crossover cable to connect two machines directly, but you'll have to mess with configurations most likely. A router/switch is the best (and easiest) setup you can get with a home network.
