  • PSU of SG33G5 too loud

    Hello Everybody

Discover this site today (thanks gameson) , received my SG33G5 this week , build yesterday with :

    -Core 2 Quad Q6600
    -Samsung SpinPoint T - HD501LJ - 500 Go (SATA2)
    -Seagate 200 Go (SATA)
    -Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2 Go (Kit 2x 1 Go) DDR2-SDRAM PC6400 4-4-4-12 - BL2KIT12864AL804
    -Pioneer 110D (IDE)
    -Vista Ultimate

Use only drivers from CD and Vista , no upgrade anything yet (so the bios is the shipped one)

this shuttle is very little and i am already fond of it and when i have a look to my old pc , i ask myself : how could i live with that !!

So i come with several questions , hope to don’t annoy you too much ...

-the noise of the PSU is definitely too much ... i am very disappointed about that .. my old pc made less noise so this is my first problem ....

-the fan behind the case (middle left) make a noise which i think is not normal

the shuttle in low noise mode make too much noise , in middle and high : i have the impression to have an airbus A380 in my living room ...

the goal of my pc is to be a media center so the noise is the first priority

1/ is this problem can be solved by the warranty ?

2/ is this problem is not a problem for shuttle ? i am sure other people with SG33G5 already contact shuttle for that ...

3/ Is the PSU PC50 make low noise than the PC40 inside ? but i don't plan to buy another one ... my question is only for information

4/ Is it possible to change the fan (middle left) behind the case ?

if i want , i have 14 days to bring back the shuttle to my reseller but don’t want to change ....

    Please , i need help !

Thank you very much for any informations you could give me

There could be a fault with your PSU, i would suggest you return it back to your reseller and see if that solves the problem. The fan on the PSU cannot be changed, and it would void your warranty.

Re: PSU of SG33G5 too loud

All our PSU's are silent, so try having your PSU replaced and see if that helps.
The PC50 is just a PSU with a larger wattage.

Actually there have been people who have replaced noisy fan in Shuttle Power Supplies however as Eric **** as said it would void your warranty so I would only suggest that if your shuttle was out of warranty. Since your shuttle is new I would see about getting it replaced under warranty.

            Hello All ,

i contact my reseller and it tells me the noise of the PSU is not a problem and so the warranty doesn't work for that
so can i contact shuttle directly ?

            thanks

edit : ok i call again my reseller , ok to use warranty , they don't replace only the PSU , i have to give them back the whole shuttle

but another thing : there are new shuttles :) and i think i change for SG33G6 or SP35P2PRO but this is another problem :)

Re: PSU of SG33G5 too loud

actually they are not quiet - all the shuttle PSU's I have heard are very loud, emitting more noise than the rest of the computer. I just got a SG31G2 and its very loud, like ridiculously loud.

From what I have read on the internet this normal. I am going to purchase the PC50, and I am also going to add new fans to the PC50, to make it more quiet.

Please don't tell lies about 'there is something wrong with your psu' if its too loud, just own up to the fact that the shuttle PSUs' are loud. end of story.
