Power supply Faulty??

Theres a high pitched noise wen my 450W powersupply is plugged in...wat's wrong with it??

Will it eventually take out my whole comp if i keep using it?

AND HAs anybody ever used the thermaltake MaTRIX case yet? im planning to buy it so i can replace my case AND the power supply.

Generally a high-pitched whine coming from the PSU means a faulty fan that is getting ready to die. You can try to use some graphite or a light lubricant, but if it quits it may ruin the power supply when it gets too hot. While it shouldn't crater any of your other system components, there are never any guarantees.

And no, I have never tested that particular Thermaltake case so I can't give any impressions about it.

Woops i forgot to add taht it makes a high pitched noise wen my computer is TURNED OFF and the plug is in. So no fans running.

I opened up the PSU and saw a yellow paste from the bottom of 2 fat capacitors. Could that be leaking electrolyte from a faulty capacitor?

Time to replace the PSU. The odds of it taking something else out when it dies may be low but why would you take the chance?

Actually, the odds of it taking out all the major parts is very high when it blows. I for one would not even turn it back on or plug it in and replace it immediately.

yeah replace it - i've lost several componets after being warned by the PSU
