EP35-DS3P: Crashes with 8 GB (4x2) DDR2

Hello world (and Gigabyte tech support): I have a GA-EP35-DS3P, Core 2 Duo e8400, 8 GB of Mushkin DDR2 800, a GeForce 8800GTS/512, and an Antec BP550 power supply (all lumped into an Antec P182 - but I doubt that detail is significant). Everything is at stock and I don't want to overclock: I'll settle for working properly.

Here's the situation: In Vista x64, a game will crash—hard hang. Originally I thought that I had driver issues, but memtest86 hangs outright within the first minute of running. (Not an error - just a hang.) Individually the modules are fine. Help.

Are you running memtest86+ v 2.01? And not just plain Memtest w/o the + ? It makes a big diff the old version w/o the plus will hang.

I'll check whence I return home; running some errands at the school at the moment. It's entirely possible that I've screwed up and gotten the non-plus version (or I screwed the burn, although OS X on Apple hardware does NOT hiccup with ISOs).

Thanks for the prompt reply--I am really looking forward to some official explanations from the Gigabyte folk.

UPDATE: I was using the older Memtest, but Memtest+ exhibits the same behavior.

Problem exhibits itself for at least the following configurations:

(1) Four-by-two, all slots occupied.
(2) Three-by-two, 3 of four slots occupied.
(3) Dual channel, 2x2GB. (yes, they're in matched slots.)

Have you increased the MCH voltage? with 4 sticks you need at least +.10V I don't think I've tried my ram at stock MCH voltage ever as to run 400-450 Mhz also needs more voltage to the southbridge. Since I know Lasdmeasap is gonna want to see all you memory related bios settings you might as well post those too.....Copy and paste the list from one of the the other discussions.

You will also need to set some subtimings but since you use my main brand of ram, I can refer you to greg, the best for Mushkins subtimings and getting your 8GB up and running. Yes you need some MCH voltage, maybe more then HemiRick said with 8gb But greg will help you out pretty quick with the best settings for 8Gb and your board >>>>

Yeah 8GB is alot of ram, you will likely at least need 62 or higher Refresh to ACT, and at least +.1 -.15 or more MCH voltage added.

But yes, AUTO is never best, and FOR SURE is not going to run 8GB stable
