  • EP45-DS4P new bios

    Hi all !
Has anyone tried the new bios version F6 yet ? It said on the gigabyte website this new version F6 support DDR2 1333 ? Has anyone have any problem using this new bios ? Is it worth to upgrade ? I am using F5 on my EP45-DS4P.
Thanks all for your info ...

If you do decide to use it please DO NOT USE @BIOS to flash with

Please use Qflash with a floppy, usb drive, or a FAT32 Partition on then end of your Hard drive (Or on a separate Storage drive)

Interesting, EP45-DS5 received 'F10n' and EP45-DQ6 a 'F10o' at the same date (2008-08-22). Description is about the same, "1333 and beyond", in all of them.

As for "worth it?", "if it ain't broken, don't fix"

        Re: EP45-DS4P new bios

        NO DONT DO IT
        I have 45 DS4P also.
Had 3.8Ghz with E8500 and kingston 800mhz hyperX (not oc ram but running 1:1 @ 5-5-5-15

On F5 this oc ran ok - any higher and computer would reboot in windows prime95

Set all things back to default and deleted OC profiles b4 flash > had noted down exact OC settings.

F6 i set exact same settings for voltage - timings and speeds etc >(had them all written down)
First it tried to reboot 3 times. Then it crapped out altogether. Next boot came up "bios corrupt -- restoring from Dualbios" and took me back to F4

Upon reflash of F6 the OC settings seemed to still be there. Took voltage and OC down a notch. This time 5 reboot till it told me "OC fail" but luckily bios did not fail this time.

I am still working on OC F6 > starting with ram right now > F6 will blow your F5 OC away (as in bulldoze it to oblivion and hell and put you back at stock speed)
So much for 1333+mhz speed >>> Tried OCZ ram but incompatable with this board so had to change to Kingston. Fastest DDR2 is OCZ rated @1200mhz > yeah right for 1333+ > such a lie esp when Gigabyte doesnt play nice with OCZ

          Re: EP45-DS4P new bios

Sounds to me from your comment about your settings still being there that you are not properly flashing. After a flash you HAVE to load optimized defaults, save and apply and reboot back into the BIOS to make your changes. Are you doing this?

And yes, all BIOS's will overclock different, and a BIOS flash is only suggested if your BIOS is VERY OLD, or you see a update that specifically addresses a issue you are having.

If you find a BIOS that works for you, then keep using it. Newer is not always better either

you have not read what i said

I have cleared all saved OC settings.
            I have loaded optimized defaults
            I have then flashed
I have then loaded optimized defaults AGAIN
            reboot
re-entered OC settings that work PERFECT on F5

regarding bios update > all P45 by gigabyte are young bios > the newer ones have more memory compatablitly.
No Bios could rescue my OCZ ram. I expect better OC from newer bios > not totally unbootable on what was 100% stable with prime95 for 24 hours and intel burn test 50 tests

              Re: EP45-DS4P new bios

              Ok, that sounds better

And as I always say, newer is not always better and best to find a BIOS you like and keep it.

Gigabyte has been kind enough to send me this Exact Board, so sometime next week I will likely be flashing the latest one that I will personally modify and I will let you know how stable it is ram-wise. At least from my point of things, as far as ram and settings

I have posted in your thread if you would like some help with settings, but it sounds like you may already know a bit.

I was just asking to be sure above, I was not doubting or down-talking to you in anyway at all.

Glad to see you making some posts with info for others around the site, keep the info coming. The more info out there the better
