  • WOL S3 Issue on EP43-DS3L

    Hey Guys

I have an EP43-DS3L mobo running Vista using the F8 bios. It's being used as a media center. All is working fine except...

The machine goes to S3 sleep and wakes up fine with no issues.

If I enable the Wake of LAN (WOL) and then put it to sleep the first time it will restart fine. But any subsequent times it will actually power down the machine and can only be turned on via the power switch. If I then allow the machine to do a poper shutdown from Vista and then at the restart I put it to sleep, it works as expected the first time and then does the shutdown thing each susequent time after that.

As soon as I disable the WOL all is good again and S3 works as expected (without any restart needed).

I'm using the built in realtek NIC card with the latest drivers form the website.

Any one else seen this issue?

Re: WOL S3 Issue on EP43-DS3L

Latest BIOS I see you did load/save/apply/reboot optimized defaults after you updated right? If not you must

Manually set BIOS options in MIT? What is your specs (what ram and how much)

If you are not setting things yourself that is likely the cause. Since you have no issues otherwise with S3 I would assume you are using the latest BIOS and your ram is setup almost 100% properly. Likely could be and just a WOL issue? I have not heard any issues with this, but likely not many users use it either

Strangely I do not see this option in my manual, so I cannot test it myself for you and see if my board works properly for this. Ill reboot here in a sec and check my BIOS though

I do advise you try the actual RealTek drivers (not from Gigabyte) and also be sure you have the latest Intel Chipset package installed. Here is both from where I always get them if I do not grab direct from Intel and Realtek (Untouched, just rehosted) >>>>

    Intel Chipset >>>http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...ivers.com).exe

    Realtek (Direct)
    Realtek

Links you need from that page (I do normally get them at the above site, but it is down right now so I could not link you directly)

    XP 32/64 >>
    ftp://66.104.77.130/cn/nic/PCIE_Install_5706_1020.zip

    Vista 32/64 >>
    ftp://210.51.181.211/cn/nic/Install_Vista_6210_1009.zip

Ill reboot now and see if I have WOL, and if so I will test for you tonight and see how it acts on my end

Yeah I always follow the full BIOS process.

I have the RAM set to auto but no problems there so I'll check that later.

I'll try the new drivers tonight.

Your right the manual doesn't mention the option but it is in there.

My ram config is 2 x 1gb in slots 1 and 3 (assuming 1 is closet to the processor).

      Thanks for your help.

Well, I looked in my BIOS and do not see that at all, so maybe it is just on your board? So I cannot test this myself, if you cant get it fixed via drivers and or BIOS adjustments you may just have to not use it or wait for a newer BIOS or try the older ones out that still support your CPU

Let me know if the new drivers helped any?
