  • EP35C DS3R shutdown problem.

I have windows vista ultimate sp2 installed and whenever i try to shutdown my computer it just won`t. It logges out of windows, the screen goes blank but the system is still working. If i push the case`s shutdown button everything shuts down but my keyboard and mouse don`t. I`ve tried reinstalling windows, nothing solved, even with sp1 i have the same issue, i tried changing options in the power options menu but with no effect. My system is : e8400 @ 3800 mhz, 4x1GB Corsair XMS2 1018 mhz (i had 2x1GB sticks in the motheboard when the problem shown up so this is not the issue), WD 6400AAKS, 1x DVDRW, PSU : Fortron 400PNF and an EP35C DS3R motherboard.
    Can anyone help me?

How are connected the HD? Are you using Gigabyte (purple) or Intel ICH9R (yellow) ports?
The DVDRW is IDE or SATA?

The yellow ports and both the HD and the DVDRW are SATA, but the problem started once i reinstalled windows not after changing something in my system.

So you are not using any of those two Gigabyte ports, right?
Try to disable the "Onboard SATA/IDE device" found at Integrated Peripherals BIOS page. If Windows detect it will load some drivers that could hang your system.

No problem, just disable Gygabyte because you are using the Intel ports.
Did you used the F6 thing to install Intel drivers, floppy or USB stick?

You don't need to with Vista..

After you installed Vista did you:-

                  1) Install the Intel Chipset "Drivers" (important) ?
                  2) Update MS generic AHCI driver with Intel's Matrix driver (windows) ?

I didn`t do any of those things because they mess up my whole system. If i install those drivers i get hangs when the hard drive is in heavy use, that`s why i try to avoid installing those drivers.

Even if you don't install the Intel matrix drivers, which to be honest I have had problems with except for the latest version, you MUST install the Chipset Driver (inf). If you don't some of the Chipset Options, Processes, etc won't be setup correctly and that maybe causing your problem.

I doubt very much the Chipset Driver (inf) would cause you any problems.

Also you could Load-up you Optimised bios settings and save, just in case any of the power options have been changed.

So you did not install your chipset drivers and... hmm.. sigh..

Maybe you should just go back to XP. :)

Wow, thanks for the advice soldier, unfortunately XP has been retired a year ago.
I`ll give those inf drivers a try but honestly this particular motherboard has some issues with hard drives, i wonder if it would possibly be a PSU issue?

Does it? Mine isn't the EP version, but I haven't had a problem with the ICH9r at all, bar some of the 8 Series Intel AHCI drivers (matrix storage). The last of the 7 series were fine and now the latest of the 8 series is too.

Either which way, the Chipset (inf) drivers aren't going to affect your hard drives in a way that the Intel Matrix Storage drivers could.

                            The order Intel recommend:-

                            1) Install Windows OS
                            2) Install Service Packs
                            3) Install Intel Chipset "driver"

So they normally should be installed before you install Graphics drivers and the like......

Absolutely found 0 zero zip problems with exactly the same board and revision.
Did OC it to full 4.00GHz completely stable, using now at 3.6GHz, running RAID so HD software and hardware are just fine with this board.
Please follow your manual directives, start with your DVD Gigabyte drivers (do updates later), please do not try to alter any steps and you will be successful, believe me.
