  • What exactly is stock?

Clearly it depends on the processor. I'm finishing my PC build using a E8400 (E0) and a UD3R motherboard.

The only thing I know for sure is that stock E8400 speed is 3.0GHz. What is stock Vcore voltage, and what is stock NB voltage, and what would stock Vtt etc be?

Or is all this revealed to me in the BIOS when I choose optimized defaults?

Technically isn't it possible that if you leave your voltages on Auto, the motherboard will use higher volatges than necessary, and thus actually run your setup at non-stock voltages?

I just want a nice starting point that is plain vanilla. My aim is to get to 3.6GHz at stock voltages or as close to stock as possible.

Sorry for the stupid question. It's my first Gigabyte/Overclock!

Yeap, Stock would be optimized defaults only. Not set manually either, just loading optimized alone is stock. If you manually set all things without knowledge of what you are doing, it may mess things up.... Even at stock speeds

No, at stock Speeds your board will not overvolt anything when left in Auto. It is only when you overclock any amount and leave things in Auto that things can get overvolted

Great, that's good to know. When I set optimized defaults, will I see what stock voltage the motherboard has picked for me? When it comes time to overclock, I want to be able to know how much voltage over the stock optimized settings I have set, so it would be helpful for the motherboard to show me that starting, stock value.

        Re: What exactly is stock?

If your voltage is at auto and want to know what it is, just use a program and see what the Vcore is.

        CPU-Z is highly recommended.

Yeah, that's true. I was totally forgetting about the information available at the OS level.

          Thanks.
