  • GA-ep43-ds3l: new build recognizing HD in bios but during windows install it will not

As stated in the title, on a Ga-ep43-ds3l board, the bios is detecting the western digital 640g harddrive, but when I attempt to install windows and it gets to the screen to select where to install, it does not detect any harddrives. Anyone have a solution?

Did you remove the jumper from the drive if it had one? If not please do so.

Then please tell me what Port # you have the drive connected to, and what you have set for this in the Integrated Peripherals BIOS page >>>

      Integrated Peripherals

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. AHCI
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

Incase you get this post while I am gone, you should do/have your setup like this

Sata Hard Drive plugged into the first port, Zero. Then your settings should be like this >>>

      Integrated Peripherals

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. Disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

Only need to be enabled if you are using a IDE Device >>
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

What it may be is that your disk may need setup for first use if it is not DOA. Some disks do need to be setup first, that is set active and formatted for first use with the manufacturer tools. That would be DATA Lifeguard tools (not diagnostics) for your drive >>>
