  • GA-EP45-UD3P w/OCZ Reaper HPC memory timings help

I am setting up a GA-EP45-UD3P w/OCZ Reaper for a friend and would like to make sure I get the memory timings right. I have lurked long enough on this board to know I need the help of the experts here to get it right. I have run Memtest+ 2.11 overnight and have gotten more than 9 pass reports.

I have also chimed in on the "GA-EP45-DS3R unstable after sending to S3(STR) sleep state" because I am getting the exact issue with this build as others have had there - completely stable except for I get a reboot cycle and then a crash when waking from S3 sleep. But that is another issue, on to the parts and memory settings.
    • Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (F8f BIOS - the latest published)
    • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz

In areas where there is a value with the [Auto] or [Normal] settings I have included it. How do these settings look? Thanks a ton in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P w/OCZ Reaper HPC memory timings help

Well, If you are passing the board off to someone are you sure you want to leave a Beta BIOS in there? Just wondering, if he is ok to update to the final later then that would be fine I would think. But then again, he would then need to set all the settings up agai9n and such.

S3 issues should not be affecting you since you are not overclocked, so sounds like some settings may still be off

I would make these changes and see if S3 is then ok or not, As for the rest of the memory timings, Auto may be just fine >>>

    Driving Strength Profiles
Driving Strength ....................: [Auto] << Set both channels to 800

Channel A + B (Set both to match)
Static tRead Value...................: 6 [Auto] << Set both manually to 6, then test S3. If it fails still then set both to 7 as 6 may be the issue or the fact that they are not matching may be the issue. So test both at 6 first.

As for voltages, I would suggest you test out this with the above changes as well >>

MCH Core.............................: 1.200V << Try 1.24 if you dont get S3 fixed will all other changes. Then also test out 1.22 and 1.05

    DRAM
DRAM Voltage ........................: 1.800V [Normal] (OCZ specs 2.1V) <<< Set to 2.0 and test, then 2.1 and test again

These you have set to normal, change to Auto as normal may or may not be correct for some of them as you have changed other things and some of them are tied together >>>

CPU Vcore............................: 1.3 [Normal] << Set to Auto
CPU Termination….....................: 1.200V [Normal] << Set to Auto
CPU PLL..............................: 1.500V [Normal] << Set to Auto
CPU Referen..........................: 0.76V [Normal] << Set to Auto

    MCH/ICH

MCH Reference........................: 0.76V [Normal] << Set to Auto
MCH/DRAM Ref.........................: 0.9V [Normal] << Set to Auto
ICH I/O..............................: 1.5V [Normal] << Set to Auto
ICH Core.............................: 1.2V [Normal] << Set to Auto

About the above ICH voltages, you may want to increase them a little for that graphics card. If you do, try these out they should be good for this setup >>
    ICH I/O..............................: 1.55V
    ICH Core.............................: 1.14-1.24

    DRAM

DRAM Termination ....................: 0.900V [Normal] << Set to Auto
Channel A Reference..................: 0.900V [Normal] << Set to Auto
Channel B Reference..................: 0.900V [Normal] << Set to Auto

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P w/OCZ Reaper HPC memory timings help

Thanks for the reply. I will test these settings and report back.

The end user will not be comfortable with digging around the BIOS, so I will stick with the released F8f if I can.

By the way, I am not sure if it is clear that I am running 4x2GB of the OCZ memory.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P w/OCZ Reaper HPC memory timings help

        L,

Still no luck with S3. I made the initial changes and tested:
        • Set everything back from Normal to Auto unless other values were noted
        • Driving Strength ....................: 800 (both channels)
        • Channel A + B (Set both to match)
          Static tRead Value...................: 6
        • MCH Core.............................: 1.24
        • DRAM Voltage ........................: 2.0
        • ICH I/O..............................: 1.57V (other voltages 1.5 or 1.59 available)
        • ICH Core.............................: 1.10V (other voltages 1.0, 1.2 available)
        • tRFC.................................: 57
        Test 2:
        • Channel A + B (Set both to match)
          Static tRead Value...................: 7
        Test 3:
        • DRAM Voltage ........................: 2.1
        Test 4:
        • MCH Core.............................: 1.05
I have had absolutely no change in behaviour in the machine (maybe it is running a little quicker in Windows). Everything seems very stable until I try to wake out of S3 sleep then it power cycles continuously until I hold the power button in to kill it, then it starts up normally (though sometimes I get the "Start Windows Normally" screen).

Could it be that the 550W PS is not giving me enough juice to come back from sleep? That seems unlikely since in all other cases the machine is fine.

Should I change the System Memory Multiplier to 2.4 (though since I am not overclocked that should not be an issue, either).

So this is where I left the settings at the end of testing:

Hey, I just replied to you hear as well >>
            http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/ga-e...6/index26.html

Ya, I think you may need to wait until they release the BIOS with a fix included. I will be asking about this for the UD3 models as I think they all have the S3 issues still. I am sure they are working on it of course, but I have yet to personally inquire about it. I will do so tonight if I hear from them, if not I will for sure ask Monday when i talk to them

            Snip'd

Try ICH Core 1.2, Ram voltage 2.12, CPU Vtt 1.24, CPU Pll, 1.55 (Or whatever you have above 1.5), Static Tread 8-9, and MCH 1.2-1.24

Just so you know you are using 2.40B now, since you have Auto there, but 333 MCH Strap selected that is the only multi that would be 800Mhz on the 333 Strap. You could set MCH to Auto and choose 2.40B, but it is the same as you have now
