  • Dell D430compatible with 128GB SSD

    Hi all,

does anybody know if the Dell D430 is compatible with the Runcore Pro IV 1,8" Zif drives? I'm planning to upgrade my very, very slow 4200rpm harddrive (my external usb harddrive is way faster than my internal one ) to an 128GB SSD. The problems with the MacBookAir do make me a bit nervous ...

    Regards,
    goldi

Yes it works great in that computer. In fact Tyco Corp. just installed about 300 of them in their Dell D430 fleet computers and they are ecstatic about the upgrades.

      Hi Matt,

I'm glad to read that. When will the 128GB model be available in Europe?

      Regards,

Why do you want to buy them from europe where are much more expensive when you can buy directly from MDD and send them as gifts so you don't have problems at the costums.

MemoryC.com in the UK and Notebook.de in Germany should have them by the 5th of October.

I know that they are more expensive here in Germany, but not every 'gift' goes through customs without problems. Also, it's easier for me getting hold of a national vendor if there arise any problems ...

Fine. I already ordered the 128GB ZIF drive at notebook.de and I'm really looking forward to the performance boost of my D430.

Re: Dell D430compatible with 128GB SSD

Today, I finally received my SSD. Cloning my harddrive to the new SSD was very smooth as well as swapping the two devices. The performance impact is awesome.
The only drawback was that the cloning tool on the RunCore was corrupted. So I had to download a test version of Acronis MigrateEasy from their website.
Now, let's see how long it works that great ...

                Cheers

Hi, I just purchased a RunCore 128GB SSD for Dell D420 - but it is Just "Pro I" - what is the main difference between Pro I and ProIV?

My specifications from inside the drive are:

JM20330 chip (SATA to IDE chip?)
                    Runcore rc08m12-m35 chip (Controller chip?)
                    sn 0900012432
                    zif1.8_vj04 mainboard revision

                    Thanks

Image: 64GB Runcore ProIV ZIF SSD internal circuit

Does it have an Indilinx controller? If not, then it's not a ProIV. Also check it's performance. Can you get 15-20MB/s 4kb reads using Crystaldiskmark like shown here? If it's 10MB/s then it's the slower jmicron based ProI which I'd suggest replacing with the faster ProIV.

They have different chips, also have different performance, pro IV is more stable.

Re: Dell D430compatible with 128GB SSD

I just installed a ProIV into the D430 and its running sweet so far. I did not have to mod the drive, it just worked straight away. Windows is also running it in DMA Mode 5. Windows also offset the partition 1MB too.

                          My drive is firmware 1571

I ran Crystal Disk Info 3.2 and its reporting the drive is compatible with SMART, 48bit LBA and TRIM ???

i ran Crystal Disk Mark 2.2 and on 4k 100MB test i only got 16mb read 12mb write... Windows 7 also takes upto 60 seconds to boot too.

Any ideas why this would be so slow?
