  • Infinst intel chipset and windows7 and Gigabyte mobo

    Hi,

Is that necessary to install infinst chipset drivers for windows 7 or drivers provided by windows is perfect for best operation?

Also, is there any driver that we must to install under w7 (and better than w7 original drivers) ?

Of course I know that azalea drivers, lan drivers and AHCI drivers for example must be installed, but any other over this ?

    (x64 system)

    Thanks in advance,
    Pubem

    Hi

You only need sound and LAN drivers, don't let Windows update do these!

AHCI runs from standard W7 installation.

      +1 ^^

Windows 7 will install all default drivers for sound, land and AHCI. But it is always suggest to install the latest drivers from MFR website or you can find them here stickied to the top of the forum or in my sig. Like said dont let windows update these drivers via Windows Update.

You do not "Have" to install chipset drivers, but it is suggested!

          I have two questions:

First - does that package (UPD: it happens every other reboot. Is there a new or some special driver for GSATA?

Here's how my Device Manager looks right now:

Notice that Gigabyte controller is in Storage Controllers group - is this supposed to be like that?

Thanks LSD, "suggested" is fairly enough for me: -)

Yes, you right about it. I remember when I updated LAN last time, killed my, and driver reinstall not helped than.

And yes, booth AHCI runs fine without issue, I confused with my xp install, where gsata ahci was issue, but then solved.

                And Nvidia off course :-)

On my last w7 install there was no installed sound drivers at all (no need them) but two days ago I tried to install the newest from MFR website .
(but there is two+1 drivers on this.)

After install there was no mixer panel, sound setup for speakers etc.
But after that I have installed the driver from gigabyte.com.tw and that one works fine.
So which driver I need from mfr website exaclty ?

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R2.33-Win 7/Vista 32/64

                vs

                Realtek AC'97 Driver 6.305 (5.37) ( Vista/Win 7 32/64)

                and

Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.
(I'm really confused about this one)

                  Hi,

Switching by registry tweak AHCI is tricky I tought.

You really don't need on w7. First time I was installed without AHCI,
but after that, I changed in the bios to ahci booth controllers onboard and gsata, but w7 detect changes without problem, and on next restart I was on AHCI without problem.

But actually I suggest always to install w7 right in ahci mode, this is the safe and correct way I think, not changing that on the way.

(I need to tweak my XP as you do, because it's installed long time ago in normal mode, but I need it on ahci, because my w7 is the same, and changing in the bios when I swithing operating systems is a pain. gsata in ahci now, but onboard is a more tricky one.)

                  Regards,

                      1. Yes it is for X58 / P55 and previous chipsets.

                      2. If you are not wanting to use AHCI on the Gigabyte ports you do not have to, just uninstall the driver and set the BIOS back to IDE mode. Yes there is different drivers for it, and I suggest you use those from J.Micron direct and remove the RAID utility since you are not running RAID

                        Hello,

It is a standard question (and they voting for onboard controller), but I'm just interested in your opinion:

Is there any reason to use (or mix) the secondary controller over onboard, if 4 hard drives fit on onboard one ? (for example 2+2 set)
                        (not RAID set up)

Also (as two different esata and nonesata driver version), it is perfectly safe to connect hard drive to external e-sata (mobo's backpanel connected to mobo) connection the sata drives without any external mobile rack or something, just the hard drive itself when computer is on ? Or better for safety to turn off the computer and than connect the drive ?
Also I assume the same operation to the internal ones (as they connected to the same connections on the board) so can I connect them with computer on ?

                        Thanks,

Not sure what you are asking? If you are asking about two arrays, you can use 2 on the Intel controller if you want, or yes you could have one on the Gigabyte ports but the Intel one is faster
