  • SATA Port 0-3 native mode?

Just a quick question, after looking over my little MB booklet I noticed this setting SATA Port 0-3 native mode and I currently have it set to [Disabled] should I Enable it? I run XP pro and it was saying that it should be Disabled if you have a pre-XP OS so that you run in Legacy mode. My 80G HDD is currently on SATA port 0, what do I gain if I run it in Native mode?

    thanx guys!

Re: SATA Port 0-3 native mode?

my boards book doesnt mention anything about which os version. I did A LITTLE google (only checked the first 2 links ) and from what they say xp or better set to enable. I have had mine either and notice nothing. But they do say it has something to do with IRQ's that are used either way. But from what i can tell no performance difference that I can see. I would set to enable; you wont have to reinstall windows or anything like that so your safe.

Wonder if there is a way to test to see if there is a performance increase or anything at all by enabling SATA Port 0-3 native mode

Re: SATA Port 0-3 native mode?

Legacy Mode allows the bios to select an IRQ/s for the drive/s, where as Native mode allows a modern OS such as XP/Vista/7 to assign the IRQ's (and allow IRQ sharing).
