  • EP45-DS5 double boot

    Hello, I have an ep45-ds5 boad (F12 bios) with q9550 D0 and 4GB Mushkin Radioactive . All worked ok with the default settings ( 2,83Ghz cpu, 1066Mhz Ram at 2.1V). I raised the fsb to 400 (8,5 multi), set Vcore to 1,300, RAM at 1066 @ 2.1V , and all were ok, with one exception: I got double boot when I power on . It`s happening if the pc it`s turn off for several hours.

    Can somebody help me in this matter? Thanks.

    Re: EP45-DS5 double boot

    Please provide the following information so that we can help you:

    1) List your system components in your signature.
    --> User CP tab (upper left corner of web page)
    --> select Edit Signature
    --> enter your hardware components (brand, model, etc.)
    --> include your bios version
    --> preview
    --> Save when complete
    Be sure to include your bios version, motherboard version, power supply, cpu heatsink/fan setup and the model numbers of all components.

    2) Link to your ram's full specifications.

    3) Fill in the generic bios template with your bios settings.
    --> Fill in Auto where appropriate.
    --> Update "??" values with what is displayed in your bios.
    For EP4x motherboards, using either of these EP43/45 bios templates [post #2 or #3].

    4) Include a screenshot that displays:
    Memset using the SPD and ">>" tabs
    cpu-z CPU and Mainboard screens (several instances can be run at the same time)
    EasyTune6 --> TUNER tab --> ADVANCE tab --> VOLTAGE tab (only the Voltage tab is needed)
    CoreTemp screen [for your cpu's VID (Voltage ID)]

    Links for these programs are in the Latest Overclocking Programs, System Info, Benchmarking, & Stability Tools thread.

      Re: EP45-DS5 double boot

      Thank you for you reply,but i gave up. Even with 350 fsb my board have the double boot symptom.

      Fullspec: EP45-DS5, Q9550 D0, DDR2 Mushkin 996599r1066Mhz, 2xwd 6400aaks in radi1, Enermax Pro+82 525W Psu, Noctua NH-U12P with 2 Noctua P12 push/pull, 3 Noctua P12 on the case , Lian Li PCA17B case.
      This system is running linux,hence I cannot post screenshots with coretemp or other windows app.

      I don`t have any other problem,at 3.4Ghz the system was stable , and with 10 instances of cpuburnin the temps were at 60 degrees max.
      Again,thanks for your reply.

        Re: EP45-DS5 double boot

        We have been able to help clear up the double boot problem in most cases.
        The most common solutions involve bios settings and sometimes the issue is due to motherboard/psu incompatibility, where the psu might work perfectly with a different motherboard or system.

        Loading optimized bios settings and then making any bios changes is the first step for an optimal system.
        If you change your mind and want help, post back in this thread and provide the information requested in post #2.

          I cleared CMOS, Load Optimized default, made the changes, then reset.
          What I observed was that Vcore was 1.300 even I set it at 1.35. I tried diferent values for Vcore but the bios reported 1.300 .
          With Auto Vcore the bios report a variable value : 1.32-1.34 , but the double boot is still present. I will post a screenshot of coretemp and cpu-z installed in vmware (I hope it will work).

            Re: EP45-DS5 double boot

            The problem occur when the pc stay off for several hours, or if I turn off the PSU. If I shut/no shut it will boot normaly, but the board made some noises (not beep,like the warning messages).

              Re: EP45-DS5 double boot

              I have always had double boots on my EP45-UD3P when over clocked. This is with a Q8200 and now an E7400.

              No amount of tweaking or adjusting has helped. I have taken everything I can off auto, adjusted voltages etc. It's just something that happens on some Gigabyte boards. Every time the PC is switched off at the mains, the next cold boot will be a double.

              A double boot is pretty harmless and in my case the first boot attempt lasts only around a second before it powers off, then boots normally. I tried to sort it for a while but then came to the logical conclusion that it wasn't worth wasting any more of my time on. It's simply a harmless quirk
