  • EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

    Hello :)
Thanks profJim for helping me about opening this thread.
I would like to ask about optimizing my system while working with multi utilities, such as firefox with many tabs with autocad with etc etc.
Also with games, I want to figure out what would be my best optimal system configuration. I'd like to glad if I can get any help.

    so here are my questions:

    * I got a Samsung SyncMaster 997MB monitor, it gives 85Hz@1280*1024, but 75Hz@1600*1200, I want to use it at 1600*1200 but not sure about my eyes' stability so what you guys suggest? I am a bit afraid about that 75Hz.

    * Ofcourse my system optimization here we go :) What would be the best settings with Overclock and non-overclock?

    Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

Nice post, you have provided excellent information.

Save your current bios settings using F11 at the main bios screen. Give this setting a name such as Default_Setup. If you want to load these settings, use F12 from the main bios screen and then select the name of the profile you want to load.
This post has some useful information that deals with bios profiles and possible problems with new bios settings.

We'll start with an optimized setup with stock settings. If you have already loaded Optimized bios settings you're ready to go:

Note: this template shows the "normal" or default values to the left of the colon (:) and manual setings or AUTO is shown to the right of the colon.
After you have modified your bios settings, save the new settings as an additional saved profile using a profile name such as Optimal_Default.

I suggest that you run Memtest86+ from a bootable floppy or cd for at least 6 - 8 passes before you boot into windows.
After Memtest86+ runs error free, I recommend that you run the following stability tests:
    • Intel BurnTest (IBT) or LinX for 10 loops using the maximum amount of available memory.
    • Prime95 Blend test for at least 8 - 12 hours or longer.

If there are any errors while testing, tell us how long the test ran and what error messages were displayed. Don't continue to run the test if there are any errors.

    Code:
    CPU = Core 2 Quad 8300 (SLGUR) (7.5x333) 2.5GHz
    Motherboard = GA-EP45-UD3LR , Revision 1.0

              Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

The 800/800 settings are the optimized settings on some boards, like the EP43-UD3L (I think).
It might be the same for the EP45-UD3LR. I don't know for sure.

                    Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

So far I got my Memory Bandwith improved by 0,2 GB/s (6,73GB/s) atm
                    Cache & Memory 1,5GB/s improved (36,68GB/s)
And Memory Latency reduced so is improved too by 2ns (it was 91,5 before and 89.4ns now)
but other stuff like video and cpu tests seems like to have around same values.
                    I ran memtst86+ like 6tests but didn't got prime95 blend yet.
Gonna try if I got some more time.
But what should I do if I want a overclock with cpu?
                    or Rams or VGA?

and using monitor at 1600*1200@75 is better than 1280*1024@85 ?

thanks a lot for all help so far!

Ya gotta crawl before you walk, and walk before you can run.
The first thing is to make sure that your system is rock solid stable at stock settings before you start to overclock.

Once your system is good to go at stock speeds, we'll help you go for the gusto.

**edit** As far as monitor resolutions, go with what you like best, as long as your settings won't damage the monitor.

                        Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

monitor resolution all lcd /flat screen are supposed to produce the best results at their standard resolution.
dont know what yours is but u can look it up(see manual).
Memory bandwidth standard is all in and around 6-8gb/sec on 45 chipsets at standard.Latency well that varies too .
You can try n fine tune that after you get your cpu speed up a bit..well once u are totally stable (mho) as pro Jim is saying.
Im just including a 500 cpu ref 2000 fsb, bandwidth latency screenshot fyi,the thing is tho were gonna be at like 1/3 the memory bandwith performance of say good i7 systems .
So get your cpu overclock sorted out first once you are stable and then fine tune other items . that is really down to increasing cpu ref(fsb) speed. (mho again)
nb this is a memory performance screenshot with other programs running.9-11gb/s is about all you will get tho.

                          Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

Chike, thanks for confirming that the EP4x "L" models use 800/800 clock drive values when optimized bios settings are loaded.

Max, Cpu Clock Drive and PCI Express Clock Drive settings should NOT be changed manually. When you initially load optimized bios settings, the "best" values will be applied by the bios for your motherboard. Lsdme said that there are some "hidden" bios settings that are only set when you've loaded optimized settings.

Jhay82, your results are exactly as expected. You will notice significant performance improvements when we overclock your system by increasing the cpu speed.

Kick's memory benchmark is as good as it gets, especially since he "stole" my patented tRD = 9 setting.
His memory scores might be a bit higher if he was using the most recent version of MaxMem2.

Once you have completed your stability testing at stock speeds, you can try the following bios changes:
                          Code:
                          System Memory Multiplier --------------: [[COLOR=Red][B]3.20B[/B][/COLOR]]
                          Memory Frequency (Mhz) -------------- [B]1066[/B]
                          DRAM Timing Selectable ----------------: [Manual]

                          Standard Timing Control
                          CAS Latency Time---------- 5 ----------: [[COLOR=Red][B]5[/B][/COLOR]]
                          tRCD --------------------- 5 ----------: [[COLOR=Red][B]5[/B][/COLOR]]
                          tRP ---------------------- 5 ----------: [[COLOR=Red][B]5[/B][/COLOR]]
                          tRAS --------------------- 18 ---------: [[COLOR=Red][B]15[/B][/COLOR]]

                          MCH Core ------------ 1.10 -------------: [[COLOR=Red][B]1.22[/B][/COLOR]] <--- 1.24 might be needed

                          DRAM Voltage -------- 1.80 -------------: [[COLOR=Red][B]2.20[/B][/COLOR]]
Memory benchmark scores will increase slightly, but you probably won't notice any real world performance benefits.

Just to be on the safe side, with these new settings, run only one full pass with Memtest86+ and then run IBT one time using 10 loops and the maximum amount of available memory. You might want to repeat the IBT test by changing Threads = AUTO to Threads = 4 for your quad core cpu. Let us know if the second IBT test results in better GFlops scores or slightly higher cpu core temperatures.

Oops, time for a minor game change.
Once you've completed your current stress tests, apply the settings in post #13, but perform full stress tests in windows.

Now is the perfect time to verify that your memory is completely stable when it is running at its maximum rated speed.
Your memory might be capable of running at 1100MHz speeds or higher, but your best overall system performance should be with higher cpu speeds with your memory running with 900 - 1000MHz speeds.

                              Re: EP45-UD3LR with Q8300 optimization

Well after I passed Memtest86+ with 8 tests with 1066Mhz settings.
                              I did a benchmark
results are even better as memory
Bandwith improved from 6.73 to 7.04GB/s now
Latency improved from 89.4 to 85.9ns now
Cache & Memory improved from 36.68 to 37.59GB/s now

now I am doin IBT but if I choose max. amount of memory it says:

""Success, your system was able to maintain its stability while running IBT.
This is usually an indication that your CPU is fully stable,if at least tested with "Standard" stress level. If you are testing with memory size below standard, please re-test with "Standard" or higher stress level.
                              Test completed successfully in 0.22secs""

so I cant make a 10 loop test like that,
and now i am doing it with standard high (2048MB) 10 loop test.
and it gave an error about instability after 2nd test.

There wasn't any errors with IBT at 800mhz 4-4-4-12
i had 10 loop with Auto and 5 with 4 Thread. Auto was around 26.5Gflops each loop, 4 thread was like 9.5Glops.

Would it be about my 500W psu is at technical service atm and now I am using a 300W standart one for a few days?

(I tested both MCH Core 1.22 & 1.24) or is it about my fsb:dram 5:8?
