  • GA-x58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) Fan control and slow POST problems

    Hi,

I have bought a new system with a Gigabyte GA-x58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) MB. I am very pleased with it but I have two problems:

First problem is about the fan speed control. I do not want to control CPU PMW (NoiseBlocker MF M12P) FANs with software because of the DPC Latency in W7, but in the Bios (F5) there isn't any way to set the speed. So, my fans are running at full speed making loud sound. What can I do?

Second problem is related to POST load which is very slow before first screen appears. I have an i7 930 with 6GB Corsair Ram, Sapphire 5850, Antec CP-850 and Intel SSD. The MB seems to reload C1 three times and then POST other numbers, staing ~3sec at 86. After POST it works flowless.

Please help me with this to problmes so I can enjoy this great MB at its full potential.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

PS: Please excuse me for my bad english.

Re: GA-x58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) Fan control and slow POST problems

i think you can set it to pwm in the bios and it will speed up and slow down according to temps,if it was a 3 pin fan then you could set it to voltage in the bios and it will speed up and slow down according to cpu voltage but i dont think this supports 4pin fans but you could try it,as for slow boot ups disable floppy drives from boot order and drive A from bios, makesure your os hdd/ssd is plugged into the blue sata intel port 0 any secondary hdd plug into blue intel sata port 1/2/3/4 and any dvd sata drive plug into blue intel sata port 5

Yes, now it loads HDDs faster (Thank you for that!) but still POSTs long. The C1 number is still three times loaded and it lasts 10 seconds before other numbers. The RAM are well inserted 3x2GB in white slots.

About fans, yes there is Smart Fan and PMW or Voltage but it doesn't do anything. Still at full speed even if the fans have PMW Intel. Is there a way to set the speed manually (but from Bios, not Windows)?
This is a DAW so low DCP Latency and low noise is most needed.

Thank you for all your help.

I have F5 version. Will F6I help with fan control and faster POST? Is it safe or is it better to wait for official F6 release?

          Thank you!

                Made the Bios flash.
                But no... Still slow POST.

And with the PMW Fan, now on voltage is a little better but still not ok (still high noise due to high spin) but on PMW is spinning very hi making loud noise.

It's stragne because it is on idle and the temeperature is in ~40C.

I still cannot control the fan speed in Bios.

Mabey there are other solutions to my problems?

                Thank you for your help.

I am using NoiseBlocker Multiframe M12-P 4pin with digital PWM control acc. to Intel specifications (as it is stated on the fan box), inserted in CPU 4pin fan header and even Sys 4pin fan header (same result).

From pressing power button till Windows Boot Screen it takes ~17 seconds.

Thank you for your quick response.

windows boot time seems about right to me,i dont know why your fan is spinning at full speed though, even with latest bios, only cheap and sure way to solve it would to purchase a cheap fan controller and control it that way,i have one installed and works great with all my case fans but you can attach cpu fan too

C1 x3 is normal when overclocking, the board checks the settings a few times before it applies them.

Your fan issue may just be the type of fan you are using, it may not work properly with PWM or the voltages put out by the CPU header. Did you try Voltage control too?

The thing is the PC is not OCed. I get ~17sec til it starts booting in Windows not till Windows finish booting. From power button till Windows 7 it's about ~24sec. It's ok but I thought it will be faster.

About the Fan i don't know. NoiseBlocker is a good German Fan but it may be RMA (both of them). I'll try to send them for change.

On Voltage is better but still noisy. It would be best if I could manage the speed of the Fans from Bios but it seems that current version does not have this option (yet). Mabey in the future... :)

                          Thank you.

Ahh ok, well then your settings are not correct for your hardware. Please give me your full specs and current settings in a template from my signature and I will advise.

Gigabyte boards board slow, just something you have to get used to. This time is increased if you use AHCI or RAID, also if you do not go into standard CMOS and then into each channel you are not using at set auto to NONE.

The Fans should be managed by the BIOS based on your CPU temperature, so if it is hot then the fans will run at a higher speed 12V instead of 7V
