  • EX58A-UD7 Auto/Normal voltage settings

I am running an EX8A-UD7 board with an i7-920 (D0) very moderately overclocked to about 3.1ghz. It is very stable. The CPU Vcore is set to Normal. My question is whether certain other voltages should be best left on Auto, set to Normal, or set to the specific standard voltages indicated in the bios. For example,

CPU PLL - 1.80v or Normal?
    QPI/VTT - set at 1.275v - change to Normal?
DVID - set to Normal - change to +0.00?

And should the following items be set to the standard spec or set to Auto (I don't believe there is a Normal setting for these)?

    IOH Core
    PCIE
    QPI PLL
    ICH I/O
    ICH Core

I guess I am trying to learn whether it is best to leave most of these on Auto, or set them to Normal, or set them to the standard spec value when I don't want to (or know enough) to change them.

    Re: EX58A-UD7 Auto/Normal voltage settings

i just set dram to 1.66 or 1.5v if its corsair ram,qpi can be set to normal if your not clocked high, same for cpu and dvid, you could even try lowering cpu voltage with dvid -0.0XXXv if you wanted, depends what normal sets it to,qpi/vtt at 1.275 is fine though, again it depends what normal uses for qpi,you wanna select whatever uses the lowest voltage and still remains stable

all other voltages i leave on auto

      Re: EX58A-UD7 Auto/Normal voltage settings

      Thanks, wazza.

Normal sets the CPU to 0.928v when the CPU at idle slows down to about 1.8ghz. Is it still advisable to let the DVID reduce it further? (I have the CPU set in the bios to slow when idle.)

I understand from your reply that I can set the QPI/vtt to Normal with this level of overclock, so I will try that.

And I will change those other voltages to Auto.

        Re: EX58A-UD7 Auto/Normal voltage settings

yes its throttles voltage and cpu speed when its idle if you have c1e enabled in the bios and or balanced power profle in windows 7 power saving options, just keep balanced selected in windows and disable c1e in the bios,if you look in easytune/tuner/advance/voltage1 it will show all the correct voltages your using, all dvid does is reduce the cpu voltage at load, not when its idle so if under load your cpu seems abit high when on normal voltage setting you can knock off voltage through dvid with -0.0XXX amount of v,to add voltage at load you use +0.0XXX amount of voltage

          Re: EX58A-UD7 Auto/Normal voltage settings

          Thanks again, wazza.

I was unable to get Easy Tune to even open when I last tried several months ago. Maybe I will give the latest version a try.

          Running Windows 7 64-bit. F7 bios (latest for UD7).

Also keep in mind, it doesn't appear to open unless you know where to find it :)

Once you start easytune, after 10 seconds or so look in the icon notification area by the clock, as you will have to click on it and then wait a few seconds for the easytune window to come up on screen.
